Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Elizabeth Alcala. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Elizabeth , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I wasn’t always resilient growing up, but becoming a mother changed that. My kids helped me rediscover the magic I’d lost as a child, the sense of wonder and imagination that makes life feel alive. Through them, I learned that resilience isn’t just about enduring hardships; it’s about staying open to beauty, creativity, and hope, even in the hardest moments. They reminded me that magic still exists, and that’s what keeps me going. Through my healing journey, I also learned to rediscover who I am to embrace my uniqueness, my quirks, and even the parts of me that once felt ‘too different.’ I realized that being weird and different isn’t something to hide; it’s what makes me me. That acceptance became the core of my resilience, knowing that my strength comes from being authentically myself.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m an artist, fashion designer, and a newly published author. Everything I create is connected by a love for magic, transformation, and storytelling. My work lives at the crossroads of fantasy and reality, where emotion and imagination become something tangible.
I recently released my first book, Whispers of the Forgotten Magic: Heirs of the Forgotten Magic. Which begins a series about rediscovering wonder in a world that’s forgotten it. It ties deeply into my artistic vision the idea that beauty and strength are found in the shadows, and that creativity can be a kind of alchemy.
My art and fashion share that same theme. I love blending gothic and fantasy elements to create pieces that feel otherworldly but still deeply personal. What excites me most is turning emotion into something real, whether that’s a story, a garment, or a drawing. I want people to feel seen in the parts of themselves that are different, to remember that being unique is where the real magic lives.
I love watching my ideas come to life, whether it’s through a story, a garment, or a piece of art. I hope that when people experience my work, they feel that spark of magic within themselves, a reminder that being different isn’t something to hide; it’s something sacred.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been curiosity, resilience, and self-acceptance.
Curiosity has always guided me; it’s what keeps my creativity alive. Whether I’m designing, drawing, or writing. I’m constantly exploring new textures, emotions, and worlds. For anyone starting, I’d say: don’t be afraid to experiment. Let your curiosity and imagination lead you, even when it takes you somewhere unexpected.
Resilience came later for me. I had to learn that growth often happens in silence and struggle. The creative path can feel lonely, but every setback is part of shaping your voice. My advice is to honor the slow seasons; they’re where your strength deepens.
And finally, self-acceptance, learning to embrace who I am, even the parts that feel weird or different. Once I stopped trying to fit into what others expected and leaned into my own kind of magic, everything began to flow. The best thing you can do is trust that your uniqueness is your greatest gift; the world needs exactly who you are.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
The people who’ve helped me the most have been my husband, but especially my children. They’ve been my greatest teachers in ways I never expected. Through them, I rediscovered my creativity and my sense of wonder, things I thought I’d lost along the way. They reminded me of what it means to see the world with imagination and curiosity again.
They also taught me patience and resilience, the kind that comes from love and from wanting to show them what’s possible when you stay true to yourself. Every time I faced self-doubt or fear, I thought about the example I wanted to set for them to live authentically, to dream boldly, and to create fearlessly.
So while I’ve learned from mentors, artists, and authors I admire, it’s really my kids who helped me grow into the person and creator I am today. They’re the reason I found my magic again.
