Meet Elizabeth Blake-Thomas

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Elizabeth Blake-Thomas. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Elizabeth, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Hitting 40, I felt lost with where I fitted in. Being a single mum, I felt I was struggling with whether I was doing a good job. Desiring more out of my career, I was always fighting with trying to get to the next level. Going through life, I’ve dealt with so many ups and downs: depression, divorce and death being just a few. Through research and my own self-reflection, I realised I had to do something, so I turned inward to rewire my mental state in order to rediscover myself and my true purpose which could lead towards a more peaceful life. Out of that personal growth, friends, family and strangers alike noticed my positive change and asked how I’d done it. Having rediscovered a new way of living life, I created a mind coaching practice called “Medicine with Words”, to share the mindfulness tools that I myself utilised to help others navigate their own lives too. Within the practice, I focus on 10 mindful tools, such as Pyramid of Purpose and Kintsugi Technique, taking individuals of any age through exercises in order to rejuvenate themselves and live intentionally. Often in the setting of group workshops or featured at retreats, “Medicine with Words” sessions focus on developing personal skills to take back into everyday life in order to realign with one’s true purpose and rediscover the joy of life. There’s nothing better than seeing someone have a mental breakthrough of joy.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I pride myself on waking each day and feeling grateful, on making sure I take a few moments to breathe and hug my Maltese followed by doing something I love. That could be having a cup of tea or taking a walk in the sunshine. I realised self care was essential to my wellbeing. Once I’ve aligned myself with how I want to start my day I say a mantra: “It’s amazing what I can achieve when I put my mind to it.” So once I decide how I want to feel, followed by a positive mindset then it’s about practically living my day. All conscious decisions of living intentionally.

As the founder of mind coaching practice Medicine with Words, based in Los Angeles, CA. I wanted to share the way I live, through group sessions at retreats, as well as corporate workshops, I share my mindful tools and exercises with others to help individuals rediscover life like I did. Everyone’s outcome after a Medicine with Words session is different, as we all are unique individuals, but common outcomes are rediscovering one’s true purpose and gaining clarity on things holding one back. Mindset coaching focuses on clients’ existing beliefs and patterns of thinking. A good mind coach works to help clients recognize, question, and revise persistent patterns of thought. Mindset coaching can help develop a success mindset, build self-discipline, boost confidence, manage stress, improve focus, and help you live more intentionally, among many others. Being someone who personally benefitted from learning the Medicine with Words tools, I truly feel it is my purpose to help others rediscover life the way I did, making the most out of the time that we all have on this Earth.

Expanding more on individual practices within the 10 Medicine with Words tools is upcoming book “Living with Intention: More than a Book”, available soon!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Constant Mental Awareness – My advice is to do constant check-ins with yourself. If you are not at the place nor mindset that you want to be at, what can you do to change that? I am constantly checking in with myself to ensure I am always growing and living intentionally. Had I not kept this up, I would never have checked in years prior and made the huge decision to change my life, creating Medicine with Words.
2. Fearlessness
– My advice is once you know your true purpose, be fearless! Jump in and go for it. I wouldn’t be where I am today had I not been fearless to pivot my life once I realized I was not living my true intention.
3. Selflessness
– My advice is to remember to be selfless. I’m not saying to neglect your own needs and desires, because those are still important. But always remember to remain selfless and give back, as that is what life is truly about. Had I not been selfless, I would not have found the joy in sharing the Medicine with Words tools with others, thus creating a safe environment to help others live more intentionally as well. Remember to serve others. Build a community where everyone can support each other.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
As a mind coach with Medicine with Words, I am looking for other like-minded people as an individual-for-hire to come speak on panels, run sessions at wellness retreats, or run corporate workshops for business employees. I can focus on one Medicine with Words tool, discuss the main practice overall, or lead a session diving into multiple exercises with a group.

If you are someone who runs a retreat, or knows someone who does, I have various sessions in multiple lengths to fit into an existing retreat schedule.

If you are someone who owns a business with employees looking to enhance team development and efficiency, better interpersonal employee communication and relationships, and/or assist in improving employee morale and productivity, I can lead a workshop either virtually or in person with your corporate team/employees.

If you are someone who is hosting an event and would like a keynote speaker or an additional panel guest, I can cover various mindfulness topics.

If you fall into any of the above or a similar area and would like to connect, please email medicinewithwords@gmail.com.

I hope to find some amazing individuals who align with living intentionally and want to make a difference in other people’s lives.
