Meet Elizabeth Katzman

We recently connected with Elizabeth Katzman and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?

My nightly self-care routine of applying castor oil packs for 30-45 minutes before bed has significantly enhanced my overall effectiveness. This practice has improved my hormonal balance, eliminating PMS symptoms, and supported my gut and brain health. It serves as a powerful relaxation ritual, signaling my body to wind down and improving my circadian rhythm. Using my Oura ring, I’ve observed that even when stressed, my body quickly transitions to a restored state. The consistent use of castor oil packs has improved my sleep quality, resulting in faster sleep onset and more restorative rest. These cumulative effects have boosted my focus, productivity, emotional resilience, energy levels, and decision-making capabilities. By prioritizing this simple yet effective self-care routine, I’ve created a positive feedback loop where taking care of myself directly translates to increased effectiveness in both my personal and professional life.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My journey from lawyer to Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner began with personal struggles. Facing challenges like Hashimoto’s and unexplained episodes of losing consciousness, I realized that I was best positioned to take charge of my own health. This epiphany led me back to school, where I combined my legal research skills with formal health education to address my concerns. Today, I channel this blend of experience into helping women navigate complex health issues, particularly perimenopause, as most women are largely left in the dark during this huge life change.

One of my favorite programs I offer is the 90-day body composition protocol designed specifically for women in perimenopause. This program focuses on building muscle, enhancing metabolic rate, and improving overall well-being. It allows women to eat more and enjoy life fully during this transitional phase, preventing the suffering I experienced in my younger years when I was focused on calorie restriction and cardio.

My unconventional path has given me a fresh perspective on women’s health, and I’m committed to providing women with the tools and understanding they need to help them take control of their health and flourish during what is often considered a challenging life phase. My mission is to ensure that women don’t just survive perimenopause, but truly thrive during this transformative time.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back on my journey, I’ve always felt competent in life, thanks to my parents instilling in me the belief that I was capable of doing anything and not to simply follow the herd. This confidence and independent thinking have been crucial in navigating life’s challenges and making decisions. A pivotal moment that reinforced this was when my children, aged 2 and 4 at the time, were frequently prescribed antibiotics for ear infections. Instead of accepting this as the only solution, I decided to do my own research, which led me to cut dairy from their diet. The result was remarkable – they never had another ear infection. This experience taught me the importance of not being intimidated by what you don’t know and always being willing to learn.

My advice for those early in their journey is to trust your own instincts and remember that you are the CEO of your life – a job that can’t be outsourced. It’s crucial to develop the confidence to question conventional wisdom and seek out your own solutions. Always be open to learning and don’t be afraid to challenge the status quo when your research and instincts tell you there might be a better way. This approach, combined with continuous learning and adaptability, will serve you well in both personal and professional spheres. Remember, being capable and confident doesn’t mean you have all the answers, but rather that you’re willing to seek them out and make informed decisions for yourself and those who depend on you.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

Reading “Head Strong” by Dave Asprey was a real eye-opener for me. It was the first time I truly grasped what “root cause” meant in terms of health. I realized it all boils down to how well our mitochondria and cells are functioning.

Before, I was dealing with mold illness and feeling a bit lost. But Asprey’s book made me see that no matter what we’re facing – whether it’s mold exposure, IBS, thyroid issues, etc. it all comes back to our mitochondria. These tiny powerhouses in our cells are the key to everything. It was like a lightbulb moment for me. I thought, “Wow, if we can get these little guys working efficiently, we’re tackling the root of so many health problems.”

Even when I hit perimenopause and my hormones went haywire, this idea still held true. Yes, at that point we lose a lot of our hormone production, and yes, we might consider hormone replacement. But, even if you decide to go that route, you still need your mitochondria firing on all cylinders to really feel good. You can replace the hormones, but if your cells aren’t working right, you’re not going to get the full benefit. That book really changed how I think about health and healing.
