Meet Elizabeth Torres

We recently connected with Elizabeth Torres and have shared our conversation below.

Elizabeth, we are so appreciative of you taking the time to open up about the extremely important, albeit personal, topic of mental health. Can you talk to us about your journey and how you were able to overcome the challenges related to mental issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
I have suffered from anxiety since I was a child. I remember being about 5 years old and already suffering with severe anxiety. As I got older it came in waves. Certain situations would trigger anxiety attacks. Yet, for the most part my anxiety was silent and controlled my thoughts 24-7. Covid really gave me the time to take a step back and realize there are a lot of people dealing with mental health issues just like me if not worse. Pre Covid I had tried everything from yoga, meditation and therapy but nothing helped me. Coming from a Hispanic household mental health is not a priority nor do we talk about it. I first had to realize past trauma was causing my subconscious to constantly go into worst case scenarios. Once I realized that I was able to catch myself and replace negative thoughts with positive ones. Mental health is a daily struggle and it still comes in waves. Acknowledging my feelings and being kind to myself has made my journey easier. I currently take time to breathe, talk to people I love and feed my brain positive affirmations.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a Style Editor and Brand Spokesperson with over 13+ years experience. I have appeared on Univision, Telemundo, KTLA and Fox featuring weekly Fashion Segments. In the most recent years I have established myself as a Content Creation working with brands like L’Oréal Paris and Armani Beauty among others. I have recently re-launched my site www.elizabeth-torres.com with a lot of new content. In the years I have been in this industry I have seen the fashion and beauty industry expand at an incredible rate. I am excited for the future of fashion and beauty along side television.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I truly believe in the power of education. We are currently navigating times of change and uncertainty. People have lost faith in our education system. I believe furthering your education gives you knowledge you could not gain elsewhere. I have a degree in Marketing which helps me better understand the larger scope of my industry. While nothing is a guarantee I believe knowledge is power. The more you learn the better your chances of succeeding at anything you set your mind to.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
As an adult I now understand how your childhood is so impactful to the rest of your life. My parents gave me things they lacked as children. The morals, principles and expectations they set have shaped me into the person I am today.
