Meet Elizabeth Ward

We recently connected with Elizabeth Ward and have shared our conversation below.

Elizabeth, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
When pursuing a career in music, confidence and self-esteem don’t always come easy. I gained the most confidence by ‘risking it’ and ‘going for it’. I would just throw myself on stage, on the microphone, into any opportunity I could grasp, and, slowly, the nerves started to fade. The more I performed in front of others, the more I became familiar with my voice and with my guitar and skill set, and I gained more of a ‘knowing’ of where I was going in a song and what I could really do. It has been a lot of risk and surrounding myself with a supportive community.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a musician, singer, songwriter, and worship leader. I love to feel the music I perform on an emotional level, and I love to see others connect with the music I perform (or write) and experience it on their own level. My mission has always been to inspire others through music. Whether it’s to inspire someone to pursue their dream, to pursue music, to inspire a memory they’ve been holding in their heart, or to light the flame unto a spiritual experience and connection…I believe music is a powerful and beautiful gift that brings us all together, and I just love it.

I do have several songs readily available to listen to on Spotify and Apple Music. There, you can find my 5 song full band EP ‘Fireflies’ released in 2018 and my recent full length acoustic album ‘Silver-Lining’ which was released December of 2022. More music is always coming in some capacity at some point in time…

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Knowing my voice and how to sing, knowing how to play at least one instrument decently, and knowing how to read multiple kinds of music charts.

I know a lot of musicians, my husband included, who are mostly self taught and have taught themselves how to properly sing and play and read music. As for me, I took lots of lessons from vocalists and musicians of different backgrounds. Whatever your path, starting out in this field of music whether performing or songwriting, you’re going to have to work for it at some level. I, personally, would recommend getting lessons in whatever part of music you are wanting to pursue. Even if it’s not an instrument or your voice! I took songwriting in college and sound engineering classes and classes on how to read charts and music. If you can’t find a class about it, find a musician or engineer or someone who has done it before or is doing it. This industry is full of people who are typically very chill and, at least for me, would love to show you some of the ropes and the ins and outs of things.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did was support me and my dream from day one. They have been to countless performances and shows and have encouraged me every step of the way through this unpredictable journey and continue to do so. There’s a key moment I always come back to that I believed help to start it all. When I was about to enter the 6th grade. I had the opportunity to sign up for chorus or band and I thought about doing neither, honestly. I was a shy kid and new things made me slightly anxious. I remember my mom coming up to encourage me about my voice and tell me that if I wanted to pursue this that I should sign up. Something that simple gave me the small nudge I needed to really start my journey in to singing and music. It’s little moments like that, that can have a huge impact. I truly wouldn’t be where I am in my journey without my parents.
