Meet Elloheim Clark

We recently connected with Elloheim Clark and have shared our conversation below.

Elloheim, thank you so much for making time for us. We’ve always admired your ability to take risks and so maybe we can kick things off with a discussion around how you developed your ability to take and bear risk?
I cultivated my tendency for taking risks by aspiring to become my own boss. Rather than giving in to stress in a regular job, I aimed to find fulfillment in a role that would benefit me beyond financial gains. As I witnessed positive outcomes from the initial risks I undertook, my inclination to embrace risks became second nature.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
As a 24-year-old entrepreneur, I recently completed my studies at Grand Canyon University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Business Management with a commendable 3.0 GPA.

My entrepreneurial journey commenced with the establishment of BeSpecial, a motivational clothing brand that champions authenticity and individuality. Our product range specializes in athletic and lifestyle apparel, catering to a diverse audience. We launched our initial collection of mesh shorts during the summer, featuring four vibrant colors that quickly flew off the shelves within a week. Our highly anticipated restock is scheduled for June 24, 2023, and this time we’re excited to introduce three additional colors to the collection.

BeSpecial had the privilege of organizing and hosting the prestigious Arizona All-Star Shootout, a thrilling event that brought together the finest high school seniors and junior college sophomores from across the state. These talented athletes showcased their skills in two exciting all-star games, creating an unforgettable experience for participants and spectators alike.

Furthermore, BeSpecial actively collaborates with numerous high schools and club basketball teams in Phoenix, Arizona, supplying gear for their sports programs. In addition to our core business, BeSpecial operates its own non-profit organization known as The BeSpecial Foundation, to which 10% of all sales are dedicated.

Expanding my entrepreneurial endeavors, I also own multiple vending machines strategically placed within office buildings and barbershops across the valley.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The most influential skill that has shaped my journey is unwavering dedication. With a clear understanding of my aspirations, I am committed to pursuing them relentlessly, employing any means necessary. This determination goes hand in hand with having a well-defined vision. When you possess a vivid image of what you want to achieve, your dedication naturally fuels the realization of that vision.

Another impactful attribute that has guided me throughout my journey is my creativity. By diversifying my clothing brand and creating multiple avenues beyond just apparel, my creativity has played a pivotal role. My work stands out as unique and incomparable. Through my experiences, I have acquired valuable knowledge, recognizing that the hardest part of initiating something is taking the initial step.

Hence, my foremost advice to others is to simply begin, irrespective of their current knowledge or circumstances. Progress can only be achieved by moving forward instead of passively dreaming about what could be.

Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?
I believe that cultivating a well-rounded skill set is of utmost importance, which involves dedicating effort to improve in areas where one may not be as proficient. As a business owner, comprehending every facet and operational aspect of your business is crucial since it ultimately belongs to you. As an entrepreneur, continuous personal growth is indispensable, and acquiring new knowledge daily contributes to one’s self-improvement. Investing in your areas of weakness also offers cost-saving advantages, as it eliminates the need to hire someone else for tasks you already possess the know-how to accomplish. Additionally, by taking ownership of these tasks, you can execute them in a manner that aligns with your unique approach and style.

When I embarked on launching my clothing brand, I possessed no prior knowledge of graphic design and lacked the ability to create my own designs. Consequently, I had to allocate significant funds towards hiring graphic designers for my clothing line. However, after realizing the financial strain this was causing, I reached a point of exhaustion and made a decision to take matters into my own hands. I turned to YouTube as a valuable learning resource and taught myself the art of graphic design. This newfound skill has not only saved me a substantial amount of money but has also granted me the freedom to create designs whenever I desire.
