Meet Elorah Davis

We recently connected with Elorah Davis and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Elorah, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
Being a studio owner and yoga teacher of course I’m an advocate for yoga, meditation, and breath-work. Although yoga isn’t the only movement in my self care routine. Maybe is dance, hula-hooping, running, rollerskating, working out or even walking. I find that movement helps me get out of my head and into my body and lately, that has been my go to self care practice when I feel stuck. I have a busy schedule and I have been known to over commit to things but since making time for self care practices I find everything is more manageable. My mood has improved, I have more motivation and I don’t get overwhelmed or stressed as easily.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a trauma-informed, 500HR E-RYT(Experienced- Registered Yoga Teacher), Barre Instructor and a college professor. I teach in a very adaptive approach to teach people how to have longevity in their yoga practice and all the many ways to practice yoga off of the mat. I love working with all body types and abilities, including but not limited too those disabled, with special needs, MS, fibromyalgia, auto-immune disorders, substance abuse, the complete beginner and the advanced yogi.

I own a 100% eco-friendly, community focused, wellness space in St. Augustine, FL called Now & Zen Studio. We host barre, pilates and a variety of yoga classes weekly as well as many mindful, wellness focused events monthly. Our newest class offering starting this summer is SUP Yoga Classes and a on-demand video platform.

Since opening Now & Zen Studio has been voted Best in St. Augustine 3 times and in 2023 we were voted BEST IN FL!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
In highschool, I won the superlative for being the “Most Daring”. That is a quality that has never left me and once it was mixed with experience, education and faith there has been no stopping me from going after and achieving my dreams.

My advice for folks who are just starting out are to get a clear vision, act with intention, have a plan but accept sometimes you have to pivot and always believe in your vision and yourself.

I countine to practice these things by creating a vision board every year, journaling, leaving positive affirmations around my house, and practicing acceptance and faith.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Our most recent wellness book study book was The Body Keeps the Score. It was very enlightening to how our brain functions when it senses a threat, experiences trauma or continues to cope from past experiences. I have a lot of experience with how the body holds and processes trauma but the book has given me a better understanding of how the brain is working during traumatic situations.

We host wellness book clubs quarterly and are free to members. Each book has offered something special to my life. We have also read The Four Agreements, Think Like A Monk, Your’e Not Dying, Your’e Just Waking Up, and Journey of Souls.
