We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Emanuele Pistucchia a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Emanuele, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
Definitely from my Dad, he always has been a man with a positive attitude in front of any kind of situation with always a big smile on his face.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a guitarist, composer and instructor with over 25 years of experience. I recorded and performed every genre of contemporary music. I was born in Viceno, Italy, I started taking trumpet and piano lessons at the age of 8.
I started my journey as a session recording artist at the age of 13 tracking multiple guitars for an original four song EP and I immediately loved the art of studio work. I gravitated towards a number of projects. The majority of them, original projects split equally between studio and live work. In 1996 I decided to further my musical education in Florence, studying guitar at the Lizard Music Academy for 3 years focusing on guitar and composing.
Always fascinated with the allure of American music, in 2001 I had my first taste of the United States while in Los Angeles. My main goal being to get my first contacts in the music world. Hard work paid off when I developed a working relationship with Blake Wharton as a studio musician for all his records and live touring in places like United States, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama.
As an in-demand session guitarist and touring lead guitarist, I built quite the resume working with numerous successful artists covering multiple genres:
Chet Roberts (3 Doors Down)
Geri Halliwell (Spice Girls)
Bobby Caps (38 Special)
Creed Fisher
Ashley Hunt
Sheena McGinnis
Greg Upchurch (Chris Cornell)
Whey Jennings
and many more…
When I wasn’t touring nationwide or in the studio recording, I was playing the legendary bars of downtown Austin with a number of different bands. In 2017 I started my own alternative blues project with recording artist Bear Ryan called Red On Yellow.
While recording with the band and playing several major blues festivals across the southern United States, we maintained a residency at the world famous Antone’s in Austin, TX.
Currently, when I’m not touring with nationally and internationally recognized artists, I’m also a guitar instructor and shows director for The School of Rock. Additionally, I serve as a demonstrator and clinician for several different brands.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Practice, practice and practice…… I think always be inspired and playing your instrument as much as you can is always the key to reach your goals.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
Being a session/touring musician basically means you have to play something that who hired you decide for you, so after so many years of this I think I need somehow to find more time for playing my own things.
