Meet Ember Williams

We were lucky to catch up with Ember Williams recently and have shared our conversation below.

Ember, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

My confidence and self-esteem really developed early on when I was younger, just with being in school and not being able to truly hide my real authentic self. I just had to walk around the negative energy and thoughts that would come in my mind when I’m out and being seen and even from other people who if you truly see through them your own confidence and knowing you are prefect just the way you are is what they wish they had the nerve to do. I just had to understand I’m not gonna be everyone cup of tea, I’m gonna do me and no matter what achieve whatever I put my mind towards. Walk into any room with your head held up high and know you the baddest thing walking. No matter what anyone says

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Well hello there, my name is Ember Williams also known as Jade Avenue and I’m an entertainer & choreographer specifically known for my dancing. I dabble in music as well as both are huge passions that have been with me since I was a child. I feel the most exciting or special thing about what I do is that people find joy and inspiration in just watching me perform as I do with others in my field. It’s something I was always drawn towards and it’s always fun to come up with new ideas to innovate myself as an entertainer.

My brand is really just about being authentically yourself no matter where you are. The people who see that and get magnetically drawn to you will become your closest friends and supporters. I always want people to remember to take their time. You have your whole life to live to mess up and get back up. Do what makes you happy! Not what others want you to do.

As of recent I was apart of the Ciara “Dance Icon” competition where I placed fourth in my group but it was such a fun experience to go out and have conversations with people and see if they be willing to support what I’m doing. In June which is pride month for the lgbtq+ community I am going to be doing my first drag show. Putting on a show in a town where many people are judging you before they even get to know you. Spreading joy and happiness to people who are in huge need of it in this world we live in today.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three qualities and skills I feel everyone should possess is Empathy as you never know what’s someone going through and validating them, and suggesting solutions are far more helpful and can determine how highly others think of you and your opinion, Creativity to come up with different ideas and strategies to achieve what you want. Lastly confidence, confidence means knowing your worth. It means being able to establish your boundaries and speak up for yourself when you need too. It took me a long time to develop any of these but it is possible and very much worth it in the end.

To anyone wanting to start or very early on in your journey just have people in your circle that are supportive and willing to help you with these. Be open to advice and help. The best thing I say is to just keep practicing. It’s not gonna happen overnight, it can take years to fully develop and have these qualities in your back pocket to pull out when needed. I’m still learning and practicing all of these everyday.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

The people who have been the most helpful in helping me overcome so many things in my life would have to be my best friend Jose who have been there throughout everything mostly and seen me grow into the person I am today. Both helping each other become better versions of ourselves. My family as I never looked up to anyone specifically in mine so they were helpful in helping me want to build those skills on my own and try to find my independence. Then lastly my boyfriend he has become the person that seen these qualities in me right from the jump and everyday I’m able to use them with him. To have a healthy relationship and grow together
