We recently connected with Emerson Harmon and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Emerson, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
One of the key ways I discovered my purpose was by remaining open to trying new things throughout my life.
I’ve always nurtured my creativity growing up, exploring a wide variety of mediums along the way. While I occasionally dabbled in digital creation through photography and video editing, I dedicated much of my energy during my young adult life to crafting physical products, from blankets and clothing to paintings and more.
When I entered the professional world, I approached each opportunity with an open mind, eager to explore different roles and industries. I had an incredible experience in the wedding industry, but my growing interest in marketing—sparked by food blogging—led me to pursue that path. As I delved deeper into marketing, I rediscovered my passion for digital creation and began honing my skills in that area.
Eventually, I identified the skillset that not only set me apart but also brought me the most fulfilment – and that was videography/video editing. With this clarity, I focused on how I could use that unique skill to help others. I was fortunate to have prior experience in a couple of industries where I felt I could make a meaningful impact, and I knew exactly where to market my services.
Thanks to my broad range of creative experiences, once I identified my strongest and most valuable skill, I was able to offer a unique perspective that truly benefited my clients.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Resilience – One of the earliest and most valuable lessons I learned as a professional was the importance of resilience. Owning up to your mistakes and taking responsibility for them is essential. The real growth happens when you learn from those mistakes and keep moving forward, turning setbacks into stepping stones.
Professionalism – The way you present yourself in a professional setting speaks volumes about your character. Dressing appropriately, being respectful, and maintaining a positive attitude are key to building a solid reputation. These qualities not only earn you the respect of your peers but also open doors for new opportunities.
Networking – Never underestimate the power of the people you meet along the way. The connections you make while working—whether they’re colleagues, clients, or industry peers—can become your biggest advocates, offer valuable referrals, and teach you lessons you never expected. Every person you meet has something unique to offer, and cultivating these relationships is one of the most valuable things you can do for your career.
For those just starting out, I highly recommend staying open to every professional experience and connection. Say “yes” to new opportunities, even if they seem outside your comfort zone. You’ll be surprised at how much you can learn and grow from embracing the journey.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
One of my favorite friends and mentors (or as I like to call them, “frientors”) is Nancy Pauline. She came into my life in 2022, initially seeking a simple connection to the company I used to work for and asked me to grab coffee. Little did I know, that coffee would turn into one of the most impactful relationships in my professional journey.
Nancy is not only one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met, but also an incredible listener. She initially offered so much support as I shared my professional dreams, and has since been instrumental in helping me navigate the many thoughts that swirl around in a creative’s mind. Beyond our shared love for weddings, we quickly discovered a mutual passion for fashion and design, which solidified that we were meant to be friends.
Since then, Nancy has been a constant source of guidance and support, offering branding photo sessions, mentorship calls, and even presenting me with valuable opportunities. Every conversation with her leaves me feeling empowered and more confident in my own abilities, often with a few nuggets of wisdom that help me refine my business and career path.
It’s truly rare and special to find a friend in the professional world—someone you can not only support, but also collaborate with and bounce ideas off of.
Nancy has a natural talent for networking, and that alone is what brought us together. I’ve learned so much from her, and I’m excited to see how we both continue to grow and evolve, each better equipped to serve our passions.
