Meet Emily Alderete

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Emily Alderete. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Emily, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
When I was younger like many others I struggled with teen acne. I never liked the skin I saw in the mirror. I would go to Sephora and pick up masks that I saw ads for, I used them and nothing seemed to help. Finally I made the decision to see an esthetician and from there I started a customized routine that they recommended. On top of my routine I was introduced to chemical peels that made a significant impact on my skin and I started to see the improvement in my skin. I knew then that I wanted to know more about skin and how to treat it.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Allow me to introduce myself, My name is Emily Alderete and I’m a solo Esthetician in Winston-Salem North Carolina. My primary focus is skin and treating a variety of concerns from acne to aging. I have two certifications in Acne, one with Glymed and the other with Face Reality. I strive to further my education daily. My work doesn’t stop at facials, after your appointment we’ll go over a homecare routine that will continue your results paired with routine facials. The best part about working with skin is seeing the results, nothing makes me happier than hearing “I’ve tried everything before and nothing has worked until I started seeing you.” That is what gives me my purpose.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
If you’re wanting to begin your journey to becoming an esthetician, always have a focal point. When I was new to the industry I wanted to do EVERYTHING. I struggled because I didn’t focus on one area at a time I was dipping into many different pools at once. I spent some time in California training to receive my Lash Extension Certification with Bella Lash, now I don’t offer lash extensions at all. It’s important to not waste your time and to focus on specializing in something whether it’s skin or lashes. Some people can do both, but I found myself to be more productive when I narrowed down my focus to a specific area.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
When you go outside of your skincare recommendations from your esthetician and venture into the tik tok trends, it can complicate things and in turn alter your results. I’ve had countless clients come in who have used a viral product and it resulted in damaged skin barriers, chemical burns, rashes, etc. It’s important to remember just because it works for them, doesn’t mean it will work for you. We are all unique in our own way, especially our skin. This is why you see products “for oily skin, for dry skin.” When you’re consistent with your personalized homecare routine and routinely facials, that’s when you see the results.
