We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Emily Geisler. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Emily below.
Emily, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
This is the golden question. A good question really is worth 1000 answers, and this is one of them. One could say that this is a critical aspect to life in general, but when one’s life centers on the creative industry- like in the world of fashion design, website design, writing and content creation- then it becomes even more important.
The bottom line here is that you have to be on. All the time. This doesn’t mean one thing, but many. It starts from within with an untamed drive and passion to do what you love. Dedicated passion and motivation to create.
But in order to be ON all the time, you have to make sure that your batteries are charged and ready to go. This is physical and mental fuel. It’s doing everything you can to be in the best shape of your life, having a strong energy flow and it’s making sure you have a clear and focused mind.
It also means that you have to be aware of what’s going on in the world around you. This is where inspiration can really be a constant source in your life. This means not just being inspired and up to date on what’s happening in the art and creative world, but also with the people in your creative circle. This is not just limited to one creative field either. Connections with other creatives are equally as important, even if you’re in different disciplines. You never know where inspiration might come from.
I spend upwards of 70 hours a week creating and bringing life to new creative concepts. If I’m going to be ON for that long, I need to make sure that I’m eating and doing everything I can to have a high powered mind to work with. Additionally, sleep, exercise, and meditation are not negotiables and I will do anything I can to work on lowering and having a life with the least amount of stress and drama in it, because I find those two are often the number one killers of a great creative life.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I do so many things… My main 9-5 company that I run is EMG LTD. which is a “tradigital” (traditional and digital) marketing company that specializes in website design, content creation, photography, graphic design, marketing & advertising and SEO. I also run a clothing company, Scandalous Couture. And will be launching a new off grid retreat and property management company just outside of Las Vegas near the Grand Canyon this fall.
What truly excites and differentiates my brands isn’t just the diverse array of services I offer—from crafting immersive website designs to developing sustainable off-grid retreats, or spearheading impactful content creation and exquisite fashion design for events like the Grammys. While I pour my passion into every facet of my work, the most profoundly special aspect is the incredible synergy that emerges from helping people, empowering other small businesses, and contributing to a healthier Earth.
My work is an ongoing adventure, taking me from the majestic Grand Canyon to the serene shores of St. Thomas, from the vibrant energy of Las Vegas to the inspiring landscapes of Colorado, and countless other remarkable destinations. In each new place, I have the privilege of connecting with extraordinary individuals and helping a lot of people. There’s an undeniable magic in getting to know their stories, understanding their aspirations, and then utilizing my skills to help them pursue their dreams.
This journey isn’t just about what I build; it’s about the beautiful exchange of energy. As I help others flourish, I’m simultaneously learning about new cultures and environments, which in turn fuels my own dreams and innovations. It’s a truly magical synchrony of shared interests, meaningful connections with people, and breathtaking places that continues to evolve and enrich my life and, I hope, the lives and ventures of those I serve.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three core areas proved most impactful in my journey: technical design knowledge, negotiation and sales acumen, and robust business systems. These weren’t just skills; they were foundational pillars that allowed me to build, grow, and adapt.
Technical Design Expertise
Having a deep understanding of the technical aspects of design, whether it’s the intricacies of web development or the structural integrity needed for an off-grid build, has been paramount. It’s the difference between having a great idea and knowing how to bring that idea to life with precision and quality.
For those early in their journey: Immerse yourself in the technical side of your chosen craft. Don’t just learn the basics; strive for mastery. Take online courses, find mentors, participate in workshops, and most importantly, practice relentlessly. The more you understand the “how,” the more freedom you’ll have to innovate.
Negotiation and Sales Acumen
Being able to effectively communicate value, understand client needs, and confidently close deals has been critical. It’s not just about selling a product or service; it’s about building relationships and advocating for your worth. This skill allowed me to secure exciting projects and fair compensation.
For those early in their journey: Develop your communication skills. Practice active listening to truly understand what others need. Learn to articulate your value clearly and concisely. Don’t shy away from sales; view it as an opportunity to connect and solve problems for others. Consider taking courses on negotiation and persuasive communication.
Robust Business Systems
Establishing efficient business systems from the start – covering everything from project management and client onboarding to invoicing and financial tracking – saved me countless hours and headaches. It allowed me to focus on creative work rather than getting bogged down in administrative tasks.
For those early in their journey: Don’t underestimate the power of organization. Research and implement tools for project management, customer relationship management (CRM), and accounting early on. Even if you start small, building good habits around your business processes will pay dividends as you grow. Think about how you can automate repetitive tasks and create repeatable workflows.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
With all the different companies, clients and projects I juggle each week, I would be lying to you if I didn’t tell you that feeling overwhelmed is par for the course.
When the “OMG WTH AM I SUPPOSED TO DO NOW” vortex does get the better of me I have a few tricks up my sleeve.
Immediately, I make a list of everything that I can remember. No item is too small, unimportant or dinky to go on the list. Once the list is up to date and I’ve brain dumped everything, I’ll find some time to meditate or go ride my horse.
Doing so often gives me more clarity (and sometimes more to add to the list).
Then I’ll use my priority quadrant system, my scheduling software and AI to work out which tasks to complete by when. (based on deadlines, highest profit, highest maximum cash flow etc.)
It’s so important to not just work hard but work smart. All this tech we have at our disposal it’s just stupid not to use it.
It’s also critical to remain in contact with all clients, even if you are behind. Be honest with them, let them know where you are at. Clients are pretty much ALWAYS cool as long as you’re upfront and honest.
It’s not only more respectful to be straight up but it also massively reduces your stress! Life is short and since I’m so spending so much of it working… it’s critical that not only I love what I do but that it’s as minimal stress as possible for myself and others. This way we can all stay focused on the goals and have fun while we’re doing it.
