We recently connected with Emily Long and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I got my work ethic from my parents. Ever since I was little, they lead by example. They started their roofing business in their 1 bed/1 bath apartment. 31 years later, they are still putting in the work. My dad and mom work hard to ensure our family lives this amazing life. From them, I learned hard work, discipline, and balance.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Trail to Emily’s started out of a personal want and need. In the beginning, I created this formula of ingredients simply because I wanted to add a more (nutrient, texture, high quality ingredients, and taste) to my food – think smoothies, yogurt, oatmeal, etc.
I became passionate about fueling my body with healthy foods that not only tasted great, but made me feel good too. Each ingredient in my trail mix serves a purpose. I intentionally chose each ingredient because they not only taste delicious but fueled me for my active and healthy lifestyle.
After creating the mix, and eating it every day for months, people around me began to wonder: What is Emily eating and why is she so obsessed?!
I was always happy to explain the why, and was more than happy to share my newfound favorite snack. It started off with my immediate circle (family, close friends, etc.) but quickly grew to more and more. After some time, I realized that the majority of the people who tried my trail mix (& to some of their own surprise) loved it and wanted it for themselves.
I respect the body that helps me move through my life every day. If you think about all that your body goes through, they are pretty damn resilient. This is why I love fueling my body with healthy foods – like Trail to Emily’s. Who says eating healthy has to come at a cost of not enjoying the foods you eat? The only way to sustain this lifestyle is to actually enjoy your day to day. Without this, I can honestly say that it is not, and will not be sustainable.
I believe that Trail to Emily’s provides a product (soon to be products) that help people live a healthier life, while enjoying it to the fullest too. We want to help change the minds of those who do not enjoy the healthier foods. We want to be a part of the transformation of stocking shelves with high quality snacks versus the alternative “junk.”
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Make a plan – This ensures that you are not only prepared, but have an idea of what to expect. There is always going to be curveballs, but having done some preparation work ahead of time is a game-changer.
2. Utilize your resources – Take a moment to open your eyes to the people you already have in your “circle.” Once I did this, I was shocked to see how many people I could gain some knowledge and insight from.
3. Talk to people – Don’t be afraid to not only put yourself out there, but ASK others about themselves. Be interested in hearing their story and there journey. You can learn from listening.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I am feeling overwhelmed, I like to make a list. Sounds simple, but it truly helps calm my nerves. I find great joy in being able to write things out, and eventually, cross things off my list!
When I feel like I need to get out of my head and get some space, I love going for a walk. On these walks, I usually call a friend and/or listen to a podcast. I call these my “mental health walks” -This one is HUGE for me!
