Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Emily Minion. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Emily, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Throughout my upbringing, I’ve been fortunate to witness firsthand the embodiment of exceptional work ethic by my parents. My mother, stands as a beacon of remarkable drive and diligence. Despite lacking formal qualifications, she reentered the workforce during my schooling years, relying on sheer determination, unwavering commitment, and a contagious smile to carve her path to success. Her journey serves as an inspiration, not only to myself but to countless others. Similarly, my father, a dedicated custom home builder, instilled in me the values of diligence and perseverance from a young age. I recall fondly early summer mornings spent alongside my dad working. While my tasks alongside him may not have been glamorous – from sweeping floors to tidying job sites – the invaluable lessons of diligence and perseverance became ingrained within me.
Throughout my upbringing, entrepreneurial sparks ignited, propelling me to establish various ventures. In sixth grade, I orchestrated a candy frog enterprise, thriving until a humorous encounter with a teacher. Undeterred, I ventured into crafting and selling crocheted neck warmers, always seeking innovative avenues for financial independence. These experiences led to the inception of Chelsea King. Navigating the journey of owning and nurturing Chelsea King has presented its share of challenges. Yet, the resilience and determination instilled in me by my parents remain unwavering. It is this drive that propels me forward in the relentless pursuit of success.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
We are a hair accessory brand. However, there is so much more to our brand than just hair accessories. Quality over quantity is the philosophy that underpins every aspect of our slow, hands-on production process. We don’t believe in fast and cheap. Nor do we sacrifice quality to cut expense. As we value transparency and honest practices, we care about sharing the roadmap of how our efforts toward a sustainable production system works. We use our very own, special blend elastics in our scrunchies and hair ties, that took us over a year of research and development. Each piece is designed with our proprietary elastic to create the perfect amount of elongation and recovery, which is one of the key ways our hair ties – Protect Your Hair With Perfect Hold.™
Secondly, Our Atelier Collection embodies ethical production at its finest. 100% made in France, our collection of hair claws, clips and combs benefit from more than 50 years of craftsmanship and artisanal know-how. There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
In my journey as a female entrepreneur, adaptability, resilience, and vision have been pivotal forces propelling us forward. Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
During these current economic times many small businesses entrepreneurs are feeling overwhelmed, myself included. I believe nurturing relationships with both customers and fellow entrepreneurs is paramount for sustained success. By prioritizing open communication, mutual support, and collaboration, entrepreneurs can cultivate a network of trust and resilience that withstands economic challenges. These connections not only foster loyalty among customers but also provide invaluable opportunities for shared insights, resources, and growth strategies within the entrepreneurial community. In times of uncertainty, the strength of these relationships become essential for navigating these times with agility and adaptability.
