Meet Emily Noel

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Emily Noel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Emily below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Emily with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I got my work ethic at a young age from my parents. I grew up on a dairy farm in Pennsylvania, so my summers and weekends were spent helping out on the farm and doing chores. I got my first job as a dishwasher at the local diner in the 7th grade and have been working ever since! Sometimes two or three jobs at a time. Growing up, if I wanted anything I had to pay for it myself, including cell phone, gas, car insurance, etc. At the time, I would get bummed that I wasn’t always able to do things with my friends because I had to work but I look back at it now and am thankful that my parents instilled that in me. I learned to appreciate things so much more. Even now, I never take anything I have or own for granted, I work hard and earn every bit of it.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Currently, I work for Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI), which is a not-for-profit organization that helps to protect and advocate for the craft of songwriting. We also provide education and support for songwriters all over the world. This has really become a life changing job and something that has become so important to me. I really get the best of both worlds. During the day I get to be on Music Row and be a part of all these songwriters’ stories and songs and help facilitate their journeys, goals, and dreams. After work, I get to work on my music and career as an artist and continue the pursuit of my own dreams. I moved to Nashville 3 years ago with the dream to be doing music full time and within two years of being here I am doing exactly what I came here to do. I am incredibly grateful every day for this life I have built for myself here and always striving for more.

Recently, I released my single, “Redheaded Rebel” which is available now on all streaming services, so go take a listen! I am really excited to be heading back into the studio in a few weeks to start recording a new single, “Gasoline”.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Perserverance, determination, and never taking no for an answer are for sure the three most important qualities that have gotten me to where I currently am. I still have a long way to go to get to where I want to be, but I am super proud of where I am now and the progress I have made. It is so easy to get down on yourself and feel like giving up, but that is the perfect time to take a step back and realize how far you have actually come and reflect on all the things you have accomplished. I think it is also important to have specific goals and have ideas on how you plan to reach those goals in place. For me, I like to write them down and put them on sticky notes and put them some place where I see them every day as a reminder.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
For me, the most effective thing to do when I am feeling overwhelmed is to take a break from what is making me feel that way and go do something else that is enjoyable to me. I do my best to keep an active lifestyle which helps tremendously in keeping the feeling of being stressed or overwhelmed at bay from my day-to-day life.
