Meet Emily Pritchett

We recently connected with Emily Pritchett and have shared our conversation below.

Emily, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

When I have those thoughts of imposter syndrome, I have to remember that my work / life experience has all lead to this moment. Every laugh, sweat or tear has brought me to my own definition of success and I need to be present to enjoy every minute of it.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m a one woman shop and everything is handmade or painted by yours truly. I love colorful items and trying out new techniques, so I’m always open to any suggestions or custom requests that come my way for projects.

I’m most excited when I’m creating, whether that be digital content on my iPad, paint pouring, laser cutting, or even hosting art & craft nights with my close friends. When you look at my social media or website, it’s a lot of bright colors, glitter / rainbows, and a variety of craft project materials. Some of the materials that I work with are:
– Stickers / vinyl decals
– Laser cut / engraving wood
– Paint pouring on canvas
– Resin art / jewelry
– Paper Quilling

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three qualities that had the biggest impact on my journey would be: Time Management, Adaptability, and Curiosity

– Time Management: Life gets hectic, so setting up a calendar or reminder for yourself will definitely help you to keep track of your creative process / timelines.
– Adaptability: If a project doesn’t turn out “perfect”, pivot to either salvage it or even re-do it if needed. Don’t get hung up on something, just keep moving!
– Curiosity: If you want to learn more about something, do some research. I’ve used Google, YouTube, and social media videos which have been extremely helpful and it’s mostly FREE! I also luckily have perks from my full-time job to take courses via LinkedIn to learn skills outside of my job / hobbies.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When I being to feel overwhelmed, I take a break from the project / task and take some time for self care. Sometimes just making a cup of tea, painting my fingernails, or even simply listening to a relaxing playlist on Spotify helps me to gather my thoughts to reconvene my project.

Don’t push through because you think you have to but take a pause then come back to it with a fresh prospective!
