Meet Emily Rose McLeod

We recently connected with Emily Rose McLeod and have shared our conversation below.

Emily Rose, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I moved to Los Angeles at the age of twenty two without knowing anyone. I came here because I was fortunate enough to be cast at A Noise Within, a classic theatre company in Pasadena. Being amongst the thriving theatre artists at A Noise Within helped me find confidence in myself as an artist, and helped me find community when I needed it most.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am an actress, producer and screenwriter in Los Angeles. As an actress, I love working on classical material and my voice may be familiar to young people as the narrator of over fifty episodes of Totally Studios, a popular children’s YouTube Channel. As a writer, I seek to tell stories that empower women and young people. “When Mary Met Betsy,” the original web series that I produced, wrote, and starred in is scheduled to be released later this year. The show is about a romance novelist who finds that friendship might be more meaningful than romance. This project was crowdfunded through Seed and Spark, and I can’t wait to finally share it with our supporters!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think that patience, resilience, and having an inquisitive mind are the qualities that have been most impactful to my success. My advice to people early in their journey is to keep learning! I’m always taking classes, and I try to learn from those with more experience. Even if you only consider yourself an actor, develop other hobbies too–whether it be cooking or art or yoga—you never know where those skills might lead!

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
If ever I start to feel overwhelmed, I remind myself to take things one task at a time. I start with the easiest thing on my to-do list, and then go from there. Sometimes just getting started is hardest part, whether we’re talking about film making, writing, or even just life stuff!
