Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Emily Sloan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Emily, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

Yes, of course. It’s an interesting question.

Because this is the work I do with people. I’m a trauma therapist by training + experience. But ultimately, I work with people to decrease their anxiety and increase their Self-Trust. Which is what leads to genuine and true confidence.

I wasn’t always confident. I often doubted myself, second-guessed my decisions, and was exhausted from indecision and insecurities.

The Self-Trust Model I created is the framework I’ve put together to help people develop confidence, based on my own journey and what I’ve seen be beneficial with hundreds of people I’ve worked with.

It boils down to 4 simple (but not easy) practices.

Being radically honest with yourself, keeping promises to yourself, regulating your nervous system, and knowing yourself deeply.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?Absolutely. The psychotherapy practice I founded is Curiosity Rising, LLC. Since its inception in 2019, the primary service has been 1-1 therapy incorporating somatics (the body) and psychedelic therapy.

In 2022, things wanted to expand. I began envisioning + creating something beyond 1-1 therapy. Ultimately, Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA) was formed. At the heart of CYOA is the Self-Trust Model. A proprietary coaching framework designed to cultivate more confidence and decrease anxiety. The model incorporates concepts and practices inspired by Somatic Experiencing (SE), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and psychedelic therapy.

There are multiple ways to explore the Self-Trust Model inside CYOA. You get to choose your adventure. The most immersive offering is Adventure Club. A 4-6 month; multi-retreat experience. Doing this work alongside others, in person, surrounded by nature.

A more immediate and accessible offering is The Membership. Anyone can begin building the Self-Trust muscle right away inside this monthly membership. There are also more offerings to come inside CYOA including an interactive card deck and an app.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Actually, I’ve been able to pair it down to one. Self-Trust. It’s the foundation for everything else.

This is the exact reason I created the monthly membership. To make it accessible right away for people to get started. Anyone can begin building the Self-Trust muscle right away inside this monthly membership. With an archive of content videos, a Self-Trust masterclass, and live monthly calls to deepen the practices in your daily life, you can start to decrease anxiety quickly.

And a very practical way to start doing this. Keep the promises you make to yourself. When you habitually follow through on your commitments to yourself, you have no choice but to trust yourself.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
“Overwhelm” is a sign that your nervous system is stuck in a “freeze” response. You’re dysregulated and it’s hard to take action from this place. It’s easy to feel paralyzed in this state.

It’s also really hard to trust your gut when your nervous system is dysregulated.

So instead of trying to “push through” when you notice overwhelm. It’s often a good idea to slow down. And get curious. Notice if there is anything that could help bring a bit more regulation into your system. A drink of water, a longer exhale, a bathroom break, a walk outside, a warm hug. See if you can take away the pressure to figure everything out all at once, and just do ONE THING to help your body feel a bit more settled.
