We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Emily Wynne. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Emily below.
Emily, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I’ve been creating art since the moment I could hold a crayon. My parents encouraged me to explore any and everything that I had an interest in, it all just gravitated back to art.
I’ve wanted to be a tattoo artist since I was 8 years old and I’ve had tunnel vision for that goal since then.
When we sat down to talk about college/career plans, I was reminded by my father that no one else is going to live my life but me so as long as I’m happy and can pay my taxes, my parents would be on board.
At 19 years old, I started my apprenticeship at golden anchor tattoo studio and I’ve been there ever since.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a female tattoo artist that focuses on creating one of a kind pieces with a mix of whimsy and color.
One thing I love about what I do is the opportunity to do something different and new each day. I’m grateful for the trust clients give me as well as the personal impact they allow me to have on their lives.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The first is having a good mentor, without mine I truly don’t know if my career would be in the place it is today.
Consistency and discipline is how I got better at drawing. Doing that everyday even when I didn’t want to, built the foundation of confidence in my work because I knew I was working at it little by little and I’d be able to see progress the more I kept at it.
The last is having confidence in myself and knowing that there is a passion in my work to do my very best, everyday because I’m touching someone’s life with my artwork.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client is someone who has done some research, has reference photos and trusts me to do my job.
Nothing stops my creative momentum like a client micromanaging every element of the tattoo. Details are important but without the knowledge i have as a tattoo artist(how it will heal)the piece will it turns out to be something neither of us wanted.
If someone wants a piece from my flash wall where I can just have fun and make a beautiful tattoo, they’ve earned themselves a top spot of my favorite client list.
