Meet Emma Kelly

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Emma Kelly. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Emma , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

As a child, I was homeschooled with little structure but lots of independence to explore the world. This often put me in situations that required me to grow beyond my years and build strong resilience. As an adult, the ups and downs of running a small business further strengthened that resilience. Yet, the older I get, the less I rely on perseverance and instead strive for a life rooted in community, balance, and peace, where resilience is more collective than independent

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I run Minnie and Moon, a business focused on offering beautiful, functional, and long-lasting products, including Turkish bath, beach, and hand towels – only products that I use and love myself. The company is named after my grandmothers, and has a strong focus on community and environmental sustainability in everything we do. I am also a passionate belly dance teacher and performer. I began learning the art of belly dance—known as Raqs Sharqi in Arabic or Tsiftetelli in Greek—as a young girl in San Francisco. Now based in Philadelphia, I’m dedicated to sharing the dance and its cultural richness with my students, helping them build confidence and grace through movement.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three things that have had the most impact on my journey are curiosity, recognizing what I’m not good at and hiring others to fill those roles, and carving out time for meditation and dreaming. Curiosity keeps us learning and growing, while recognizing our limits allows us to bring in the right people to handle what we can’t do best. I’ve also found that taking time to dream and meditate is invaluable. It’s easy to find someone to balance the books and crunch the numbers, but bringing the vision to life is something only you can do. Sometimes, it’s hard to step away from the hustle to think and dream, but I believe it might be the most important thing you can do!

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Yes, I’m always open to collaborations! With Minnie and Moon, we offer high-quality, sustainable products, and I’m particularly interested in partnering with boutiques or independent shops that are looking for good prices, low minimums, and well made products. I’m also passionate about teaching belly dance and would love to connect with individuals or groups interested in learning. I can be reached at www.minnieandmoon.com or www.amaliadance.com
