Meet Emma & Rebecca

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Emma & Rebecca a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Emma & Rebecca, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
Collaboration! There is nothing that sparks our creativity like working with other vendors in our industry. From the first meetings where ideas are flying and slowly getting distilled down to a clear vision of the day, we love working with creative people who push us to think in a new way. We find this can extend even beyond local artisans; when jumping into a project, we love to pour over work from a variety of regions, industries, and styles. Color palettes from interior design mood boards, inspiration for an intimate dinner-party-style wedding from our favorite cookbooks, chic layers of textures and patterns from this season’s fashion lines. We are reminded again and again that creativity is a skill that can be developed and nurtured.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
As we head into a new wedding season, we are excited by our upcoming collaborations and partnerships. A few things we have up our sleeves: glam editorial shoots, untraditional event design, and destination weddings full of creative inspiration. We are a mother-daughter event design duo who prides ourselves on our positive energy, trained eye for style, and accidental (but often hilarious) tendency to say the exact same thing at the exact same time. Our business is founded around the goal of bringing beautiful celebrations to life – weddings, birthday parties, bridal showers, we believe in making all of the big moments feel special.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The biggest piece of advice we can give any business owner (or honestly human!) is to be flexible. While we have a method to our planning process, we are always ready to tweak and adjust and mold our work flow to match exactly what each client needs. Not everyone wants to be cc’d on all the emails, whereas some people love to see the communication going out, we recognize that being able to pivot in a way that serves each couple, ultimately allows us to create their dream day. One thing that has continually set us up for success is our ability to learn quickly. We make a mistake once; we fix it and figure out how to bounce back and not make that same mistake again. Every new idea we have tried has either succeeded or been a learning experience. Another quality that we value within our business is the relationships we build with our clients. We are so honored and grateful to be a part of one of the biggest days of their lives. We really love our couples and understand that this is their wedding day. We have one chance to make it truly the best day of their lives! We are dedicated to working hard and providing an outstanding product, which is reflected in the positive responses we receive from clients, fellow vendors, and event guests across the board.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
At the end of every event season, we aim to look back and see how far our design and planning has evolved throughout the past year. We embrace the idea that change is a good thing – we are not intimidated by the thought of switching things up and looking forward to new developments. We recognize that our best work often comes from building on past successes and making the new concept just that much better. This funnels directly into our philosophy that each of our events are tailor-made to each couple, we want their celebrations to reflect their unique personalities in every aspect.
