Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Emmanuel Legrair. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Emmanuel, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from not having a choice but to be. I moved to Nashville in 2013 to attend graduate school at Vanderbilt University. I had previously been an educator for 5 years and had become very comfortable. When I decided to make my home in Nashville following my schooling, I knew that I would have to create a network and brand for myself in the city. I cannot say that it has been easy, but through much trial and error, I am grateful to say that I have an amazing community and have had several once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I wear MANY hats – and I love it. I am currently the Creative Director at R.H. Boyd, a Nashville-based publishing and printing company. There I oversee marketing and visuals across all platforms. In addition to that, I am the Founder of The Commonwealth – a series of events for the Menswear Community in Nashville. There, I plan and execute activations, workshops, panels, happy hours, and more where the gentlemen intimately connect local and national brands that hold their came values. I also am a professional live and session background vocalist with credits such as Lauren Daigle, Nelly, Eric Church, The War and Treaty, and more. Lastly, I am also a stylist!
I am excited and grateful that I get to work within my passion set and join causes that matter to me through volunteerism and board service.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think that those three qualities were flexibility, ambition, and hard work. I think that someone starting their journey needs to know that the road may get tough but it’s worth it. Having said that, you’ll need ambition and flexibility to get up when you’re knocked down or things do not go as planned. There is nothing wrong with any of that, but it’s important to know and internalize those facts. The way to develop this is through trial and error, receiving feedback from trusted sources and acting on it, and a good amount of self reflection.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
I think that the most impactful thing that they did was provide an example of generosity, hard work, and keeping others in mind. I think that that has helped guide me – along with their prayers and continual advice.
