Meet Emmanuel Malette

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Emmanuel Malette a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Emmanuel, so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?
I try to remember that my identity is not found in what anyone thinks about me. By the grace of God, I have been able take back the power that I used to give to people that had nothing good to say about me or my pursuits.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a BFA in dance, and receiving acting training at the world renowned acting studio “AMAW,” I have been blessed to work consistently on many different projects. From working with Emmy Winning producer David Darg in the film “Samuel Wyatt’s Ghost,” to achieving top 5 recognition in Usher Raymond’s Megastar talent competition as a dancer, I have had many opportunities work as both an actor and dancer.

Today I am focused on honing my craft and giving my best to every opportunity that comes my way!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Don’t get distracted by the distractions. There are going to be people that will come into your life to distract you from purpose. One thing I’ve realized is that the last thing the devil wants is for us to walk in our calling. Don’t get distracted by the distractions and use discernment to determine who in your life is actually for you.

2. Keep your head down, ears covered, and just work. People are gonna talk. They talked about me and still do. We can’t focus on what they are saying. We have too much work to do, too many things to accomplish. All of the focus that we give to the naysayers, in trying to disprove their claims, will take away energy from our pursuit of purpose. We are not defined by anything that they say.

3. Trust God, no matter what it looks like. I can go back to so many occasions in which the Lord has provided for me when I truly did not know what to do. I had no other options, other than to depend on him. His faithfulness prevails, always. He will always, always, always, provide for your needs. Trust in that promise.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My mom. She is my number one support system. She has provided for me, by herself, since I was a kid.

My mom was always at every show, watched every film, and always selflessly loves and supports me.

She is all in on my dreams and goals, and with that, I have no choice but to be all in. Because one day, I will pay it forward to her, for all that she has done. I love you momma 🙂
