We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Eno Umoh a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Eno, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Honesty it was very hard at first. I feel like as an entrepreneur or even in any field of work you tend to feel like you really don’t know what you’re doing and you doubt yourself all the time. But I came to realize that I’m not alone everyone feels like this. This is kind of humbling and I think we all need to be a bit humble to be great. I’ve learned that you can do anything you put your mind to with God’s help. No one is perfect and no one knows everything. As a hairstylist I’m also always a student. I want to continue to learn new things and perfect my craft as the market requires new hairstyles almost every month. You have to adapt that’s apart of being great and I want to be the best.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m currently a hairstylist located in the DMV and Atlanta. I specialize in wigs, weaves, and natural hair. I also have my hair line on the chloeenohaircollection.com. We offer luxurious Raw Indian and Mink Brazilian hair and wigs. I started after graduating from Bowie state in 2019 in a small suite and have been expanding ever since. I’ve recently expanded into bridal it’s new and exciting. It makes me so happy that brides are entrusting me to make them beautiful on the most important day of their lives. I’m truly honored and ready to go full force into this area of business.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Patience, kindness, and humility will take you far in business. As long as you know the customer is always right you’ll definitely succeed in your business.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Time management has been my biggest area of improvement this year. Being on time is so important with my business if I’m late or behind with a client it affects other clients and sets back the work day. I’m slowly but surely getting better with punctuality.
