We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Enrique a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Enrique, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I got my work ethic from my father. Growing up I saw him get up early everyday and go to work. The only time he didn’t is when there was an event more important and it was always family oriented. He never missed a game or practice, a school pick up. I was very fortunate to have a role model such as him. Very hardworking until it came to family. Until this day he has the same routine and I consider myself very luck to be able to now share that routine with him.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
We will start with business. We have been in business for 43 years and with that comes with a lot of voluntary community involvement. We participate in all events from Taste of Hillcrest, to San Diego Pride, Taste n’ Tini’s and MANY more. We as a community always have something going on and it keeps everyone close and engaged. Currently we have Christmas coming up so have a carefully curated prix fix menu available for the holiday. Then, the New Year brings new opportunities and in an involving market there is always something to learn while staying grounded in the consistency that keeps customers coming back. I am very fortunate to continue the legacy that my aunt and her father built for many years.
Personally, I also have big news. I am going to be a father in 2026 and I could not be more excited. A lot going on personally and professionally and I consider myself very lucky each day.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Listen, stay consistent and be involved. Listen to what the people around you are saying and if they aren’t aligned with what your goal is thats okay. Find the people that are. Ask questions. Put yourself in the uncomfortable room and just listen and you never know what you might learn. Consistency is key. Especially in my industry, people want to find an item they like and when they find it they want to know every time they come in it will be the same exact way no matter who it is made by. Same with service. Fast, efficient and courteous service is what we strive for. Get involved with the community you are in. The relationships you can build, the knowledge you can gain and the gratitude is priceless.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
If I had a decade left to live I actually would not change much. I know that is a little bit of a crazy thing to say but I consider myself very lucky. I love what I do. I love my wife, my dog, my family and I love my friends. If I had to choose I think I would take just a bit more risk. Personal and professionally. Whether that be expanding the restaurant or bringing in a product that may change the way do business for the better. More calculated risk.
