Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Enrique Garcia. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Enrique, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I was true to myself when analyzing the effectiveness of the work I have done and the things that I have achieved, realizing it was my capability ant talent which lead me to them. Also, I listen to what other people say about my work, both good and bad reviews, to form a more realistic idea of the things I am doing and how I do them.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My professional career began more than 10 years ago. I started as a community manager but always wanted to work as a creative. Life and years went by and one job lead to another until I finally was able to land a work as a creative, but those previews positions prepared me to be able to do so. I learnt how to write, how to think, how to analyze and how to submerge into the market so that I would understand problems and ways to solve them. Since I began working as a creative, I have received three promotions, the last one to my current position as a Creative Manager. Nowadays my role means I have to oversee the work of 10 creatives, help them create concepts and trying to understand the ways they think so they can better use them for brands to advertise.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would say writing skills are essential, specially copywriting. Marketing skills are always necessary and and understanding about digital platforms too.
But most important, although it may sound like a joke, I think your hobbies and things you are passionate about can lead you to where you are meant to be. All the movies I’ve seen, the things I’ve read and even the games I’ve played helped me somehow to be more creative and to execute better creative campaigns.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents did a great job raising me, they are the most special people in my life. The seeded in the young me the curiosity for life, for play and for reading. One of the most special things they did is they used to make me read books but motivated me to complete them by paying me the book’s cost if I made a report after finishing it.
