Meet Eric April

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Eric April. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Eric, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

My name is Eric April. I am 27 years old and was born in France, near Paris. I am an actor, writer, and poet with Mason Ewing Corporation. I consider myself a multidisciplinary artist, though primarily an actor.

To be completely honest, I don’t have a miracle formula for nurturing my creativity, simply because I don’t fully know how it appears. Most of the time, it emerges on its own, at completely unexpected moments. When that happens, I immediately stop what I’m doing to listen to it, understand what it’s trying to tell me, and above all, to write. It most often takes the form of poetic texts or ideas related to a writing or film project.

To give you a concrete example, there have been times when I was fast asleep and my creativity began dictating lines of poetry to me. I woke up right away, took the time to write, structure my ideas, shape the words until a complete poem emerged… and then I went back to sleep.

Another, simpler and more immediate example is this very question. I’ll admit that at first, I didn’t really know what to write. Then, as I began, my creativity naturally took over.

If I had to answer simply, I would say that I nurture my creativity by letting it express itself when it chooses to, rather than when I decide it should. That’s what allows me to fully rely on it when I need it, as I do today. I stay open, attentive, and receptive to the moments when it decides to appear. Over time, I’ve learned to build a genuine relationship with it.

I see my creativity a bit like a person whispering something in my ear. If I’m deaf to that whisper, nothing will come out and it would be a shame to miss the chance to write something beautiful.

I don’t believe there is a universal method. Everyone has a unique, personal relationship with their own creativity. We all have it, but it expresses itself differently in each of us. One important point I’d like to add is trust: trusting your creativity, in my opinion, allows you to create truly beautiful things.

If I had to give just one piece of advice, it would be this:
listen to your creativity and learn to work with it, it will lead you to very beautiful results.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

As I mentioned earlier, I work in several areas of the arts, but above all, I am an actor. I have been working for Mason Ewing Corporation for over four years now, and it is thanks to its subsidiary, Ewing Power Production, that I now have the opportunity to live my childhood dream: becoming an actor in Hollywood.

From a very young age, I have always been deeply drawn to cinema, television series, music, and, more broadly, American culture. My ambition is to work with the biggest Hollywood studios such as Warner Bros., Universal, Paramount, and many others.

I want to explore all possible genres throughout my career: dramatic films, musicals, romantic films, horror films, and of course, comedy. My goal is to develop the broadest possible range to demonstrate my passion for cinema. I also want to grow in the world of television and collaborate with platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV+, and many others, because I want to express my emotions and talent both on the big screen and the small screen. My ambition is clear: I want to become a great actor and have the public recognize who I am.

Over the past four years, I have had the opportunity to travel to Los Angeles several times, the true city of cinema. I participated in numerous events, including film festivals and premieres, experiences that have been extremely enriching for my career.

I train in and practice the Stanislavski-based Actor Studio method, which I work on daily. I notably applied it during a play written by Mason Ewing, alongside actors Baba Wild and Louis Lopez. The play, titled Les Couloirs de Minuit, allowed me to portray the Man in the Red Coat, an incarnation of Lucifer. My character haunted Adrien, a young man unable to make peace with his demons, played by Baba Wild, while Louis Lopez played the child. This theatrical experience was profoundly inspiring and remains a very significant moment in my career.

Today, thanks to Ewing Power Production, two horror films are in preparation for 2026, in which I play one of the main roles: Reytac’s 2 Rounds and The Raven’s Circle, both written, directed, and produced by Mason Ewing.

Reytac’s 2 Rounds is based on a Californian urban legend centered around the city of Reytac. I play Cameron Becko, alongside Eric Roberts, Calista Carradine, as well as Al-Amin Juma and Louis Lopez.

The Raven’s Circle is also a horror film, with the particularity of taking place across two different time periods. I portray Anthony Simon, alongside Eric Roberts, John Blyth Barrymore and Louis Lopez.

Other projects are already in preparation, and I have no intention of stopping anytime soon.

Finally, since March 2025, I have been on a professional assignment in France for the HoloTech Records label and Ewing Power Production, two subsidiaries of Mason Ewing Corporation, as part of the shooting of several music videos.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The qualities and skills that have had the greatest impact on my journey begin, above all, with curiosity. Without curiosity, we don’t truly seek to understand, to learn, or to explore the different paths available in our career. It drives us to gather information, question ourselves, and go further in the field we love. Without it, in my opinion, there is no true investment: we settle for the minimum, and I find that deeply unfortunate.

When aspiring to become an actor, another essential quality for acting is empathy. It allows you to convey your own emotions, but more importantly, to feel the emotions of others. This ability is fundamental for emotionally connecting with your scene partners on screen.

For example, in a sad scene where the actor playing with me must cry, empathy allows me to feel their sadness. This makes the interaction sincere and natural, and the emotions are authentically transmitted through the screen. Conversely, without empathy, an actor is forced to merely “perform” the emotion without truly feeling it, which removes all spontaneity and is immediately noticeable on camera.

Another quality I consider crucial is pushing oneself beyond limits. Constantly striving to improve, refine your performance, and push your boundaries without ever resting on your achievements. In my view, this is what distinguishes a good actor from an excellent one.

Finally, the advice I would give to beginners is to always seek to improve, without expecting to succeed at everything immediately. This journey requires time, patience, and perseverance. It is essential to accept rejection and mistakes, not as failures, but as enriching experiences that contribute fully to the development of an artist.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

To understand why this meeting literally saved and transformed my life, we need to go back a little. Without going into all the details, I had a very difficult childhood and adolescence, marked by serious family problems. This situation lasted until I was about 23 years old.

It was precisely that year that I met Mason Ewing. At the time, I was a physics undergraduate student. I hadn’t yet entered the world of cinema when I met him. In fact, I had never dared to pursue it before. Because of these personal difficulties and my lack of self-confidence, I told myself that I would never make it, that becoming an actor was an unattainable dream. So I chose a “safer” path, even though deep down, a small voice kept telling me: “I want to be an actor!”

It was during the Covid period that I truly questioned my life. At the end of June 2021, I decided to take the leap and apply to several castings. Two days later, I received the call that would change my life.

Mason Ewing, producer and founder of Mason Ewing Corporation, had seen my application. After several hours on the phone—where usually I rarely spend more than twenty minutes per call— he offered me a meeting for the following day.

I went to the meeting, learned my lines very quickly, and did the audition. Against all odds, I was selected to be part of the adventure. Since that day, thanks to Mason Ewing, I have been learning not only to become a great actor but also to become a better person. Since our meeting, I have grown tremendously.

Before that, I was alone, depressed, living in a student apartment. I was simply trying to survive and move forward as best I could, without any real goal or passion. Studies, and especially the French education system, were clearly not made for me. Today, I am no longer alone. Every day, I continue to improve, to grow, and to live my childhood dream: becoming an actor.

What struck me most about meeting Mason Ewing is that he saw my talent in just a few seconds and had more confidence in me than I had in myself. That naturally pushes you to surpass yourself, gain confidence, open up to the world, stop being afraid to go for it, live your passion, express yourself, and above all, dare to show your talent.
