Meet Eric Cox

We were lucky to catch up with Eric Cox recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Eric , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I know it’s a dance of words, but I wouldn’t say I found my purpose. I would say I have learned to lean into what feels natural over the course of several years and several choices. And that has led me down this very long path of doing work that is aligned with who I am. I grew up in the Christian faith. Between the understanding of what a “calling” is within the scope of that religion and eastern philosophy of what’s known in the Japanese culture as “ikigai”, doing what I do now is where I find purposeful living.

There are four questions or prompts in the ikigai that help to narrow the lens toward one’s purpose. Those four are: (1) Does the world need it? (2) Am I good at it? (3) Do I love it? (4) Can I be paid for it?

While other types of work could fit me just fine, ultimately it is health and wellness coaching that has occupied the most real estate in my heart and leaves me filling fulfilled each time I am able to support an individual client or group in this way.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I help others elevate their lives through a client-centered coaching approach. I am a certified health and wellness coach.

A client may seek out a certified health and wellness coach for many reasons, including the following:
• To improve their diet and feel more control over their eating habits
• To make exercise a priority or add movement to their routine
• For real and effective methods to manage stressors
• For tools to deal with an addiction to drugs or alcohol
• To strengthen other areas of wellness, including spiritual, cultural, or occupational

I am a devoted and driven coach who aspires to make a positive impact on people’s lives by assisting them in attaining their health and wellness objectives.

I collaborate closely with clients to assess their current lifestyle, devise individualized wellness programs, and provide ongoing motivation and coaching.

I am committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle and empowering individuals to live their best lives. I have a solid background in health and wellness, excellent communication skills, and a genuine desire to help others better their overall well-being.

Coaching is what I do and the brand is SIGN UP! Which stands for Set Intentional Goals Now to Unlock your Potential. The journey of the brand began in 2014 when I and two of my running partners took on the challenge of competing in and completing 10 marathons (mix of half 13.1 miles and full 26.2 miles) throughout the country. From that came the inspiration for my first book, “SIGN UP!: 10 Interactive Lessons to Take Your Goals from the Starting Line to Across the Finish Line.”

Aside from coaching, I also support groups who have conferences, summits, workshops, weekend retreats, and other events by coming in as a contracted speaker to lead a keynote and conduct 2-4 hour empowerment workshops focused on mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
There are three values I live by and lead others to adopt. Those are courage, good health, and fulfillment. I have learned to apply these in tangible ways both personally and professionally. Those major drivers have led me to becoming myself more fully. It takes courage to take on anything worthy in life. And one must remain in good physical, mental, emotional health –like a triple braided rope– to have a good quality of living. Lastly, true fulfillment comes by what deposits you make into the lives of others. It is only through service that one is whole. And that looks different from person to person but for me it is about how am I using my gifts, talents, and resources to make lives better.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I have had the pleasure in partnering with leaders of organizations who empower women through coaching and development. I have contracted with organizations like TTime Foundation and Career Thrivers as a coach to support cohorts of women looking to level up in life and business.

I look forward to partnering with other organizations doing this work with and for women.

My mission is to equip (women and LGBTQ+) professionals with transformational tools to lead courageous, healthy, and fulfilling business and personal lives through one on one and group coaching, so partnering with LGBTQ+ organizations are a desire as well.

Being a part of the LGBTQ+ community, it is paramount for me to serve and partner with organizations who serve this large demographic by way of coaching or leadership development.

Nashville TN’s pride parade took place in June with over 125,000 in attendance for the festival. I was honored to be selected as this year’s Pride Parade Grand Marshall alongside the political force, Olivia Hill, and in company with Justin Jones, the other political powerhouse here in Nashville, TN. With this esteemed honor, I look to continue efforts to improving the lives of those who identify as LGBTQ+ by working through MashUp! a local 501 c3 LGBTQ+ based organization that I serve as board member on. We will be building and rolling out a leadership program by 2024.

If there are conferences, summits, workshops, weekend retreats being hosted by LGBTQ+ leadership to support the LGBTQ+ community then I would love to partner and bring even more value to the event. I can be reached at info@ericlcox.com or through my website EricLCox.com
