Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Eric Dover. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Eric, thank you so much for making time for us. We’ve always admired your ability to take risks and so maybe we can kick things off with a discussion around how you developed your ability to take and bear risk?
Strangely enough it came from a combination of naiveté youth and stupidity. I was the child in the family
that touched the hot stove. It’s a miracle I’m still here to be honest. Of course now I’m a bit more calculated when it comes to taking risks but in my younger days I was determined to learn by experience, good or bad.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a songwriter, singer musician who has worked with many luminaries throughout my career. I came from Alabama in the early 90’s with the sole intention of pursuing my passion for music. I’ve been very fortunate and am grateful for every step in my journey. My main pursuit is SEXTUS, which is the name of my solo endeavor. I’ve 1 full length record and two EP’s out on my own label available at Sextus.com What I still find exciting is writing recording and producing my own music. Though the world is going A.I. , I still prefer composing and doing my own thing. I still perform live in various situations and do session work from my home studio. I’m 100% independent and love the freedom of being so.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1.”Never give up” Nobody said it would be easy.Believe them. Everyone has a spark of motivation that when cultivated and nurtured will serve you well.
2.”Master your emotions” This is the hardest one arguably but extremely important. Taking a step back to understand your feelings is a virtue.
3.”Work with joy towards your goals” Don’t be discouraged at the mountains of work you have to do.Don’t let it intimidate you.
Sometimes progress will be slow, sometimes there will be no progress at all but you have to attack your tasks and never let up. Much easier said than done.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
I’m doing it now by making my own music. It’s all I really have to leave behind. Every day is a gift. I want to spend it with my loved ones and keep the fire going.
