We were lucky to catch up with Eric Fuller recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Eric with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I get my work ethic from my Mother and Grandfather. I was prob 12 years old when my Mother decided to obtain her series 6 and 63 license. My parents were divorced, so she did this while managing a household and raising two kids, which wasn’t easy. I watched her study late into the evenings and would have a close family friend come over to watch us so she could study. She passed the tests and it was a big deal financially for our family. My room was next to her office and i’d hear her on the phones working with her clients. She was really energetic and gave it her all. My Grandfather grew up pretty poor. He had to drop out of college because he couldn’t afford it yet he still managed to build a great life for himself, becoming a business owner. He told me about the sacrifices he made to make it happen. As kids he would have me scrape the paint off his building and repaint it in the summer. He instilled a “get it done” attitude and that some times you have to get your hands dirty and just get things done. I try and carry that mentality with me today as the music business is a tough one. It’s not for the weak and lazy!
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I found my passion for hospitality and live entertainment at the University of North Florida. Integrating my business acumen with my love for music and events, I launched a promotional company that brought renowned artists to local venues and organized parties.
Since then, I’ve owned, built, and operated notable brands such as Life In Color, Advanced Concert Productions, Club Space, Floyd, and The Ground, with successful exits and sales. Each experience has been truly incredible.
Currently based in Miami, FL, I oversee BLNK CNVS Presents, producing over 75 dance shows annually across Florida and Tennessee. I also co-own and operate Celine Orlando, acquired in December 2023. I’m building two much-needed live music venues in Jacksonville, FL, and Miami, FL, slated for completion in 2024.
Despite occasional stress, I’m thoroughly enjoying my work and feel blessed to have exceptional partners and a dedicated team.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my journey three things that come to mind would be:
1) Be persistent
2) Take calculated risk
3) Always listen to your gut and intuition
Everyone is different so my advice is be real with yourself and to others. Everyone talks about faking it until you make it. I guess that works for some people but to me that sounds unsustainable. When you are yourself, you are at your best and you can do your best work. I’m not saying don’t look to improve on things, but don’t pretend you love working in the music business if you really don’t love it. When you do something that comes from the heart, people can feel it.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
“What to do when it’s your turn (and its always your turn)” by Seth Godin is my favorite read. I gift this book often and I have a copy on my living room coffee table. Go buy it and read it!
