Meet Eric Hylick

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Eric Hylick a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Eric, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

In the journey of my career, I’ve often found myself as the only one in the room who looked like me—whether in boardrooms, client meetings, or high-stakes conferences. At first, the reality of being the only person with my background in these settings felt isolating. I wondered if my voice would resonate, if my perspectives would be understood, and if my unique path would be valued among those who followed more traditional routes. Yet, through these experiences, I discovered that my distinct perspective wasn’t just valuable—it was my greatest strength.

“My experience as a Global Strategist, with a proven track record in Business, Enterprise, and Cloud Architecture, has equipped me with both technical expertise and visionary leadership that distinguish me in the field. Over the course of 26 years, I’ve continually drawn on this foundation, using it to build meaningful connections and deliver impactful results. Credentials like my MBA and John Maxwell Certification are more than just achievements; they form a solid base that enables me to lead with confidence. I’ve learned to communicate with clarity and purpose, allowing my expertise to demonstrate the value I bring. “Being the Host and Executive Producer of *Becoming A Millionaire Power Couple* also taught me the power of narrative. I understood that stories—real, personal stories—are often the most effective way to connect across perceived divides. When I spoke about helping individuals and families build generational wealth, people saw my commitment to making a tangible difference. This ability to shift from technical language to human-centered goals allowed me to build rapport, turning my distinctiveness into a relatable asset.

My role as a licensed Financial Services Advisor and a respected member of the Academy of Interactive & Visual Arts also meant I had to navigate highly selective spaces. Through each experience, I learned to focus on shared goals, finding common ground that allowed me to partner effectively with others. At awards like the Davey and Communicator Awards, I approached judging with both integrity and openness, earning trust and building relationships that transcended any superficial differences.

As an Elder of E3:20 Ministries, I’m rooted in values that keep me grounded and connected to something greater. This role reminded me that when you enter any room, authenticity is your strongest asset. Spiritual wisdom, paired with financial principles, became the compass I used to navigate complex discussions and high-level decisions. This integration of personal values with professional insight allowed me to foster respect and open dialogue, even when I was the only one in the room who shared my perspective.

Ultimately, each “only one” experience taught me to see my differences not as challenges, but as advantages. I’ve learned that being successful in those rooms means owning my narrative, remaining steadfast in my expertise, and using every opportunity to bring fresh ideas forward. Today, I embrace being “the only one” because it’s where I’ve been able to make the most impact, guiding others not only to hear my voice but to see the powerful change that true diversity brings to any space.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back on my journey, I would say that three qualities have been most impactful: resilience, a commitment to continuous learning, and a clear sense of purpose. Resilience has been essential in navigating challenges and maintaining focus on my goals, even when I was the only one in the room who looked like me or shared my perspective. Being able to adapt and push through difficulties has been invaluable, especially in high-stakes roles where the stakes affect not just me but the people I aim to empower.

Second, continuous learning has been a game-changer. As someone with a background in Business, Enterprise, and Cloud Architecture and as a licensed Financial Services Advisor, staying current on industry trends, best practices, and innovative strategies has been essential to staying effective. This commitment to growth has allowed me to integrate new insights, whether as a John Maxwell Certified Coach or as a host and executive producer for *Becoming A Millionaire Power Couple*, where I share knowledge on wealth-building and legacy creation for couples.

Finally, a clear sense of purpose has guided every step. My work with *Ultimately Y.O.U.* and in ministry with E3:20 has always been about more than professional success; it’s about helping individuals and families build lasting legacies. Knowing my purpose fuels my drive and keeps me grounded, whether I’m coaching a young person through *The Quest for Truth* or delivering a keynote at a conference.

For those early in their journey, I’d encourage you to cultivate resilience by stepping outside your comfort zone, building connections with mentors, and embracing challenges. Foster a mindset of continuous learning—seek out resources, certifications, or experiences that push you forward. Most importantly, take time to clarify your purpose. Reflect on what truly motivates you, what legacy you want to create, and build from that foundation. With these qualities, you’ll be well-equipped to navigate the twists and turns ahead with confidence and conviction.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

They aren’t just seeking quick fixes—they want sustainable, impactful change and are willing to put in the effort to make it happen.

My ideal client values holistic support, whether they’re looking to strengthen their marriage, improve their financial foundation, or work on personal growth. Most importantly, they believe in the power of taking intentional action and are excited to embark on a journey of lasting, meaningful change.
