Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Eric Meyer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Eric, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
This is a question I have never been asked. Truth be told I have no idea where my resilience comes from. I simply believe that everything is building towards something and my part in the process is to keep working at whatever is in front of me on the way to the end goal. If there is one thing that helped me develop my resilience it is learning how to learn. Once I figured out that I could learn then I promptly figured out that there is nothing that I can’t learn with enough persistance and questions. I did learn that not everyone is a good teacher and once I learned that teaching without understanding is just talking. This helped me understand that just because I am struggling with a topic it doesn’t mean that I’m stupid, it simply means that I haven’t found the right person to communicate the information to me in a way that I can understand. This is where resilience comes in and simply knocking on doors until I understand the information.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am the dreamer, builder, owner and CEO of The Noiz Faktory Recording Studios. Truthfully speaking about what I do may not be very glamorous however it is the truth. My day starts with making sure the facility is clean. I personally find that an organized and clean facility makes the day start off on the right foot. I am responsible for booking clients, marketing, staying in touch with advances in the industry and always trying to figure out how to improve work flow in the building. I am always making time to study lighting, video production and video editing all the while working on making time to practice guitar and work on composing. Since we are on a large piece of land and located in the country I also have the fun task of maintaining the grounds. I do wear a lot of hats however if I want things done correctly then I get the job of doing things the way I want to. One day maybe this will change.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The quality that serves me the best is being persistent and always working at things regardless of how much progress is made in a day. As I mentioned earlier, the skill of learning how to learn is the one area that serves me well every day and I now have knowledge on topics I never thought i would have had to learn about. Lastly, being able to show appreciation and thanks to those people that choose to get involved to lend a helping hand. Without people there is no way you can achieve your goals and without people the adventure of working towards your goals would be much less exciting. I do have people that I owe thanks to and without them none of this would be possible.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The book that has helped me out quite a bit is by Jim Camp and it is called “Start With No” I had to learn that the word “NO” is not a bad word…it is the best word. Once I realized the value of this word I then realized that the word “NO” is not the end of a conversation it is the start of a conversation. In one chapter my world was turned around and my perspectives were changed for the better.
