We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Eric “Ton-E” Vasquez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Eric “Ton-E”, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I found my purpose when I realized the positive impact music had on other people. This was first realized when I DJed at parties and gatherings in my early adult years. The energy and reaction from the people was amazing, and it all was because of the songs I played. It was during this time that I knew I wanted to make my own music and get the same reactions from people. I started to learn how to produce my own music. I studied music I liked personally, and also looked for online videos and resources that showed me tips and techniques. Over time, I bought equipment, kept practicing the skills I learned, and made music over and over. Fast forward to now, and I still continue to improve my skills. Over time, and after meeting other musicians, I’ve been blessed to be a part of a few projects and contributed my music. I am grateful for the gift of creating music and I intend on continuing to share this gift with others.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My story with music begins from my childhood. Growing up, I remember my parents would listen to a wide variety of music like Rock & Roll, 80’s pop, Motown, and all the popular music at the time. I remember the first time I heard Run-DMC’s “Sucker MC’s”. This was my first introduction to Hip Hop, and the raw energy and impressive production had me hooked.
I use memories like this to put that in the music I create. I want the listeners to feel an energy and emotion. I love how I’m able to make music that has this type of effect on others in a positive way. It’s special to me since it reminds me of the great memories I have growing up listening to certain songs.
That is the type of brand I am creating, one that gives people a positive feeling. I intend on getting my music in front of millions. I’m focused on collaborating with artists and other creatives. I’m also doing some projects that involve film and TV to get my music in those outlets as well.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
As I remember my journey, I would say commitment, passion, and humble are the three big qualities that have helped me get to this point. Staying committed is what allowed me to learn how to improve my music skills, teach myself new techniques, and also learn about the business side of music. My passion is what keeps me going. It’s the one thing that motivates me the most. I listed humble as the other quality because there’s is always more to learn, and staying humble keeps me open to learning every day.
The advice I would give anyone starting out is to find your passion, stay committed, and be humble. I would also add to always stay authenticate to who you are, and what you stand for. It’s easy to lose sight of what we believe in, yet that is the most important thing to keep is your authentic self.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would like to collaborate with other artists that are serious about building their career. I want to work with someone preferably a little new in their career so that we can build a brand and sound together. I remember some of the groups from my childhood who started their music career together and built it into a brand that lasts even to this day.
I’d also like to collaborate with creatives that are working on films, shows, or other video content. My intention is to help them with their music needs and help bring their vision to other people.
