We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Erica Moyer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Erica below.
Erica, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
A lot of it comes from my life experiences. I’ve had to navigate challenges that shaped me into someone who can keep going, even when things get heavy. Being a business owner adds to that; there’s a constant need to show up, solve problems, and lead. My patients have played a huge role in keeping me grounded and motivated. Knowing I make a difference in their lives gives me a reason to push through, even on the hard days. That said, resilience isn’t just about being strong all the time. There was a time when I wore it like armor, but I’ve learned that even resilience has its limits. It can be tiring. I’ve reached a point in my life where I’ve found peace. I no longer feel the need to prove my strength in every moment. I’m ok with resting. I’m ok with not always having it together. That in itself is a different kind of strength – one I’m proud of.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
In 2017, I opened up my own business as a permanent makeup and paramedical tattoo artist. At the time, I didn’t fully grasp how transformative this work would be. Not just for the people I work with, but for myself as well. I’ve had the honor of working with breast cancer survivors, self-harm survivors, individuals with alopecia, and those who have suffered traumatic accidents. They are reclaiming their bodies, their confidence, and their stories. Being a part of that is deeply humbling.
On the other side of trauma work, I also help those who just want to feel more confident. Whether they’re busy moms, going through a tough season, or marking a meaningful milestone. Even if it’s just feeling more like themselves, this work is about restoration in every sense.
There’s something incredibly healing in this work. Yes, its about restoring what was lost or altered, but it’s also about giving someone back a sense of normalcy, beauty and ownership. Each session can be emotional, sometimes raw, but there’s always this powerful undercurrent of resilience and hope.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
First, investing in my trainings were huge. Every time I committed to learning- whether it was a new technique or advancing my existing skills- I was also investing in myself, my confidence, and the experience I offer to my clients and patients. Quality education has elevated both my artistry and my purpose.
Second, I learned the importance of surrounding myself with like-minded individuals and mentors. They have taught me invaluable lessons I couldn’t have learned on my own. Their experiences, insights, and even their mistakes have been a guide through my journey.
Lastly, I always come back to what this work is really about. I want everyone who sits in my chair to feel seen and beautiful before we ever begin a service. Whether they’re healing from trauma or simply doing something for themselves, it’s about creating a space where they feel valued, respected and cared for.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
In the past year, I’ve grown a lot personally. I’ve become much more sure of myself. I’m more confident in my decisions, my voice and my boundaries. I’m more self-aware. I’ve learned to slow down and to check in with myself. There is more of a calmness in how I move through life and work. I trust that Jesus is leading me and that trust allows me to move with clarity and purpose.
