Meet Erica Sanders

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Erica Sanders a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Erica, really appreciate you opening up about a very personal topic with the hopes that it can help someone out there who might be going through it. What can you share with us about your journey with postpartum depression and how you overcame PPD? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
Overcoming PPD was a serious task for me. Without my village, I’m not sure how I would have done it. I was one of the people who had a BAD experience with PPD. I overcame by educating myself on the topic while also being vocal with my family about my emotions. At first, I thought that the best thing to do was to keep everything bottled in, but I soon realized that I was only harming myself in the long run. My family and friends were there to support me the entire way.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am the owner of E’lluring Beauty & Boutique. I am also a law student as well. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Paralegal Studies. I also obtained my Master of Business Administration as well. The most exciting thing about myself and the many titles that I hold is that I don’t limit myself to one thing. Anything that I put my mind to or decide that I am interested in, I make sure that I set myself up correctly to achieve the goals that I set.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities and skills that I think were the most impactful in my journey are perseverance, ambition, and discipline. My ambition is a quality that always kept me going and reaching for the stars. I’m always so eager to learn and I’ve remained teachable throughout my entire journey. Perserverance is what keeps me going. Some days are hard but as long as you keep going, that is all that matters. I try to remind myself of this every time I feel like I am falling behind. Discipline is something that I recently developed, and I think that it is important for anyone to have. Discipline is what seperates your dreams from reality. You have to push yourself, motivate yourself, and do everything that you say you will do.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was just supporting me along my journey. No matter what I say that I am going to do, my parents support my decisions all the way.
