We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Erica V. Walton. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Erica V. below.
Hi Erica V. , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Growing up in the 90, in a predominantly black neighborhood, I didn’t quite fit in. I’m a black girl myself, but I was awkward. I didn’t grow up with my parents. I was also a bit of a book nerd, teachers pet and extremely thin. It didn’t help that I wore thick red glasses. The girls in my neighborhood came from two parent homes, they were curvy and in the cool crowd. With the help of my grandmother, I learned to affirm myself and be comfortable with the way God made me. Daily, I was required to recite affirmations to keep me uplifted. To help you with this task, she recommend finding an affirmation that resonates with me and repeating it to myself every day. This could be something like, “I am strong and capable,” or “I am worthy and deserving of love.” Even if I don’t fit into the “cool crowd” or have the same life circumstances as those around me, that doesn’t mean I can’t still be proud of who I am. I was taught to celebrate my differences, be kind to myself, and practice self-love. Her favorite affirmation for me was “I’m a princess growing into a queen.” Which later became the affirmation for a children’s book and apparel.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m Erica V Walton, a writer, mom, wife, coach and event coordinator at heart. I’ve been in business for eleven years. Written thirteen books and produced hundreds of events and retreats for women. I’m a huge advocate for self-care.
For me, self-care has been a transformative experience. It’s taught me to prioritize my own needs, to love myself unconditionally, and to find peace and comfort in the present moment. My journey has been marked by moments of struggle and triumph, and I’m grateful for every step of the way.
I’ve learned that self-care is not just about indulging in pampering activities, but about cultivating a deep sense of self-awareness and self-love. It’s about recognizing that we are worthy of love and care, and that we deserve to live lives that are filled with purpose and joy.
Remember, self-care is not selfish – it’s essential. And I’m grateful to be a part of a community that recognizes the importance of prioritizing our own well-being.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
On my journey, making my health a priority has always helped me tremendously. As well as, writing everything down and creating a plan to achieve each other.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
My favorite books have been The Alchemist, 7 Laws of Spiritual Success and the Bluest Eye.
