Meet Ericka Carter-Gibson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ericka Carter-Gibson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Ericka , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Life and the people I met throughout the years led me to my purpose. Starting as a young adult I’ve met some amazing people. The relationships that were nurtured led me to more people with different opportunities for me. I took advantage of those opportunities and they all shaped me to be where I am today.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
After losing my job during the pandemic, I fell in love with travel. Being a single mom of a toddler, I used travel as a way to refill my cup. My mental health was dependent on me taking the time to get away and focus on myself. While traveling I met some amazing people and experienced things I did not have access to in my local city of Sacramento, Ca. Being able to experience other cultures and meeting people from different places from around the world became a part of my life that turned into my passion. I’ve always heard to turn your passion into income but for so long I was never truly passionate about anything but working with children. Unfortunately after 10 years of being an early childhood educator, the lack of a comfortable livable wage made me lose the spark I had for the industry. Travel brought joy to my life and I was determined to turn my passion into income while helping others see they could also do the same for themselves and their families. What started as a way to save on my travel while booking for others turned into my purpose in life.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Don’t live in fear- Everyone has fear, even the most influential people. The difference between them and most people is they didn’t let fear keep them from going for what they wanted. People projected their fears about solo traveling into me. I let it keep me from just going for it, until I just did it! Now I am an avid solo traveler.

Be disciplined- Make a promise to yourself and keep it.

Meet people- You never know who will come into your life. It’s not always what you know but who you know.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Self- Discipline by Gary Hall. The first book I read multiple times. It teaches the importance of believing in yourself and to stop allowing your worst enemy to lie between your ears.
