Meet Erika Choriego

We were lucky to catch up with Erika Choriego recently and have shared our conversation below.

Erika , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

My work ethic was instilled in me by my dad, He’s had such a huge impact in shaping me into who I am today. He taught me that nothing worth having comes easy, and that you may not be the best at something but with hard work you can bridge that gap and get to where you want to be. I was also involved in competitive sports from a young age which helped to develop my work ethic too. Between my dad and my sports training, I grew up knowing how important it is to work hard, and to keep going, even when the going gets tough. Over and over in my life I have reaped the rewards that come from working hard.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am a REALTOR® and entrepreneur by day, and a wife and dog mom by night. I have been in the real estate industry for 4 years after toying with the idea for way too long. I got into real estate in 2020 with the goal of helping people change their lives and wealth through real estate. Since then I’ve spent countless hours sharpening my skillset to be the best secret weapon in 2 ways: 1. My luxury listing method helps sellers earn top dollar for their homes. & 2. My market expertise helps first time home buyers get into homes in their price range in any market.

My mission is to make my clients transactions profitable & enjoyable through my education and expertise. Whether a client needs to list a luxury property or buy their 1st home, they are in good hands with me. What sets me apart is that I keep it real with my clients, even when that means having a hard conversation. I believe this is how I can best advise them and protect their investments. I do not take my role in their transaction lightly. My business focuses on: relationships over transactions, community over competition, serving over selling, creating the outcomes my clients desire, enjoying the process, and empowerment through education.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, the three things that were most helpful in getting me to where I am today are probably my self-belief, discipline, and my mindset. At one point I was 100 pounds overweight, in a toxic relationship, and in a dead end job. I didn’t like who I was or the life I was living. I never would have turned my life around if I didn’t believe in my ability to change my life, be disciplined enough to show up and put in the daily work, and if I didn’t work on my mindset. My eyes were really opened due to the podcasts books I was consuming. I went on a huge self development journey and started to implement what I was learning. I started taking responsibility for everything in my life, implementing gratitude practices, and working to change my self limiting thoughts, This was the catalyst for all the progress I have made both in business and in my personal life.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

The Motivation Manifesto by Brendon Burchard made a big impact on me. When I read the book, I was in a job that had me being severely overworked and largely underpaid….but I was “comfortable”. It was the highest salary I had ever made, & even though I was miserable, it felt safe. I read that book and decided then and there that I didn’t want to keep playing small. I have 1 life to live and I wanted to go all in on my potential and desires. So I quit my job, got my real estate license and never looked back. I only wish I had done it sooner!
