Meet Erika Merriweather

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Erika Merriweather. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Erika, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I believe that our purpose is simply to be our selves, as fully and completely and joyfully as we can. I think the question of “what is my purpose” can be really frustrating for people to find an answer to, because our interests change as we expand through life, our beliefs may shift overtime as to what matters to us the most, and every one of us has many talents and skills, often untapped and just waiting to be discovered. That’s one of the many reasons why I love astrology, it’s not meant to tell you what your purpose is, but rather who you are. Your gifts, your talents, your potential, your emotions, your logic, your relationship with your body, your sense of self worth, how you relate to others, what you’re drawn to explore and want to learn about, where your opportunities for growth and healing and transformation are, there is so so much in the natal chart that is just loaded with all the keys and clues to who you came to be and become this lifetime. The journey of discovering, being and sharing yourself is more than purpose enough.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Becoming an astrologer was most definitely not in my life plan, but it has actually been one of the most rewarding careers I’ve ever had and has informed everything else I do in my life. When I was a little girl, my grandmother had this astrology book called The Birthday Book, with a reading for every day of the year, and she had everyone who ever came to visit find their day and sign the page. I was fascinated by my day, The Day of the Mold Breaker, and what it could mean for me in my life. As I got older, I was always drawn to learning about my sign and looking for answers to better understand myself and my relationships, and I met some incredible teachers along the way (Omarian Atman) who blew my mind with how much and how deep you can go in astrology.

My practice as a professional astrologer began with the lockdown of 2020, when as an aspiring actor, I had to think of other ways to make an income. While I had studied astrology for over a decade, I never expected it to be anything more than a side gig for friends, but before I knew it, I was being referred to people across the country and my heart was bursting with the impact that people said my readings were having on them. So, when the world opened up, while I was delighted to come back to expressing myself as an artist and performing again, my work as an astrologer only grew and has become one of the treasured gifts of my life.

I specialize in helping people to better understand why they are the way they are, to use astrology to find out where their strengths are, their talents, their biggest opportunities for growth, and most importantly, to identify the root cause of their pain and struggles and how to overcome them in a way that unleashes their fullest potential this lifetime.

My passion in particular is working with couples and with parents and kids. With couples, when you understand each other’s birth charts, you can literally save thousands of hours of trying to figure out your partner and avoid many conflicts that are due simply to not having enough information on the essential nature of your partner and how their needs can co-exist with yours.

For parents, when you understand your child’s birth chart, you have so much information in the depth of who they are as a person at a core level that they may not be able to tell you themselves but most certainly feel. There are major parts of our chart that are activated in childhood that set us on a healers journey and can be very painful albeit fundamental in shaping who we are. Knowing your child’s chart will not erase that path, but it will equip you with the skills and information necessary to guide them through it in the most peaceful and transformative way possible so that they can grow into who they’re meant to become.

I offer birth chart readings to everyone, and my joy is to help you see how magical you are and feel empowered to take it all the way. I’m also excited to be expanding into writing guided meditations, journals and books for adults and kids on astrology and bring more of my creativity into my work!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Be willing to put in the time to study your craft. My friends tease me that I’m an AI with my love of trivia and information and ridiculous ability to know the answer to the most random questions. Who knows, maybe I am, just highly advanced. In all seriousness though, I’ve always been really excited to learn about anything that interests me, and that data collection has become invaluable to my work and giving me the confidence to put myself in a teacher role where I’m helping people understand themselves at a very deep level through a complex system like astrology. If you’re early in your career journey, learn as much as you can and follow your curiosity, because it will be instrumental to your ongoing success.

2. Be willing to try something before you think you’re ready. The flip side of being so studious is sometimes I don’t know when to get out of the classroom and onto the field. Everything I’ve ever been successful at came at a time when I didn’t think I was ready or qualified to be in the room, but someone close to me told me to do it anyway. I went skydiving once, and they had to push me out of the plane, but it ended up being one of the most spiritually significant moments of my life. Now if all your people say you’re not ready, and you don’t feel ready, you may want to go back to #1, but if someone you value tells you you’re ready, believe them.

3. Be unafraid of being wrong. As an astrologer, I’m sharing a lot of information that I interpret from a person’s chart, but there are times when someone will tell me that even though I see it in their chart, they don’t feel that way and it just doesn’t resonate with them, or even other systems of astrology or other astrologers may tell them something completely different. Instead of getting scared by this, I learned to be flexible and look at the birth chart the same way I look at the person, a living breathing conscious being who is multi-faceted and always shifting and growing and full of possibilities. So I trust myself and my interpretations, but I am also never afraid to look at a different perspective and adapt to that. Rigidity is death to success.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
I’ve had the honor and privilege of working for Master Trance Channel and Psychic Medium Riz Mirza and his wife, Intuitive Empath and Master Wisdom Teacher, Oriah Mirza for many years. They have mentored me every step of the way in the development of my intuitive gifts, my understanding of astrology and most importantly in how to live my life on my own terms peacefully and joyfully in co-existence with others, knowing that I create every minute of it for my own self growth and expansion. They taught me not just how to heal from my past ( and we all have a past, I’m not special) but to move freely into my future without any baggage of heavy stories, victimhood, judgement or blame weighing me down. www.rizmirza.com for more information on these two incredible teachers.
