We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Erin Brooks. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Erin below.
Erin, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I’d say I get my resilience from my mother. I’ve seen life hit her with some heavy loads, but every time she’s gotten back up and fought 10 times harder.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a mobile streamer; I stream almost any kind of game to Twitch all from my phone, including games made for consoles (shoutout to Xbox gamepass!) My favorite part that makes it all of this special is the fact that it looks like I stream from a PC (including screen overlays, the whole nine yards), when it is indeed done simply from one device: my phone!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Hmm…I would have to say first and probably most importantly: my resilience. Having the resilience that I do, I’m able to get up and push through any anything; I probably wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for that. Second would be my hunger for knowledge; even in what I consider my “resting season”, I’m always learning and picking up ways to improve not only my work, but myself because it starts and ends with me. My third and last quality I definitely have to include is just being myself. I see too many creators in this space of gaming and streaming following the latest trends, etc. and while that’s all fine and good, I just don’t feel right following after everyone else. I want to reach people in my own way, cultivate an authentic community.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
I keep going; that’s literally it. Even in my slow season when I’m not streaming or creating content, I’m continuing to learn and improve so I can come back 10 times better, 10 times harder. It’s easier said than done, and I can’t speak for everyone when I say that, but you must keep going/doing some kind of strategy work!
