We were lucky to catch up with Erin Carr recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Erin with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Definitely the way I was raised. We were taught to work hard, have resilience and always have a purpose.
My dad was a business owner himself and worked very hard over the years. I think my siblings and I just always watched that and knew that if we wanted to create a nice life hard work & a good work ethic is what it takes.
I also don’t like going without things so I’ve got no choice other than to work hard & what I do with my businesses takes a good work ethic as these opportunities won’t come to me I’ve got to create them & make them happen.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’ve always had my own businesses from the age of around 20 years old. I’ve had one job working for someone else and then moved into starting my own path in business.
I’ve got two lifestyle brands one is LA Glam Co – a female hair accessories and beauty brand which has recently launched into Target USA (super exciting) and my other brand is yehMATE a lifestyle & wellness brand for me with a focus on men’s mental health.
Both brands have a big year ahead of them with some incredible opportunities, partnerships and growth so I’m excited for people to be part of our journey here in the U.S.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Resilience- being a business owner is not that glamorous. In fact most days are quite stressful, hard & exhausting. However as long as you love what you’re doing those days work themselves out and get easier.
Relationship building- Such an important part of any business & opportunities.
Adaptability- each day is different so learn to adapt to that as some days are great and some days sh*t is hitting the fan and it can be out of your control.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
This is something I’m constantly working on as I get overwhelmed almost daily.
Sometimes it’s from excitement of the great things that are happening for our brands and other times it’s pure stress which causes me to feel constantly overwhelmed.
I write all my notes down from most important to things that can wait a day or two or even a week!
Exercising for me daily is also very important for me to clear my mind and be prepared for the day ahead.
