We recently connected with Erin J and have shared our conversation below.
Erin , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose through prayer. The Crystal M. A. isn’t my first business, it’s actually my second. I closed my first business because I felt like I was forcing too many things to fit together and it didn’t resonate with me at all. If I was going to be in business and work for myself I wanted to make sure that I felt great about what I was doing and why. So I turned to prayer and mediation to guide me on what I should be doing. The time I took questioning my next steps lead me to being the Crystal M. A. My business allows me to not only help people but also create in a way that heals me. It’s my purpose and calling to help others heal their bodies, minds, and spirit and Jehovah helped me to see that.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m YOUR Crystal M. A. I am a Certified Medical Assistant and I have learned a lot in the classroom, in training and on the job. I applied that knowledge to helping my clients through working with crystal healing jewelry and accessories. Crystals have a lot of health benefits that most people don’t know about and I’ve made it a point to share that information with my customers and clients. Being a black indigenous woman so much of what my ancestors used to do to help heal themselves and others was lost, especially in my lineage. I’m honored to be able to get back to learning and sharing my knowledge responsibly with my community.
I specialize in creating functional jewelry pieces that support the healing of the wearers mental, spiritual, physical and emotional body. For example, if someone is fighting depression and they prefer to wear bracelets, I would make a bracelet with the best crystal that helps alleviate depression. I also strongly suggest to my clients that they should not self diagnosis or self treat without their doctor’s knowledge. Although I am in the medical field, I do not replace doctors by any means.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities that were impactful to my journey would be faith, discernment and vision.
I have to have faith because being an entrepreneur does not guarantee success. You have to be willing to take risks and believe that everything will work out for you and in your favor.
Discernment is important because you have to know when to listen to that little voice in your head and when to tell it to shut up. You also must learn to judge without emotions; if working with someone isn’t the right decision for you, you need to be able to know why from a business stand point. As an entrepreneur you will meet people you are emotionally unsure about but logically will help you reach new heights. You need to know when and how to judge your next steps and how to do so wisely.
Lastly, vision. If you can’t see the big picture don’t expect others to see it for you. You have to have a vision in mind with goals along side it if you want a chance at being successful.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My parents and grandmother. They all have had businesses and shown me from a young age that if there is something in my heart that I genuinely want to do, the only one stopping me, is me. They have always been supportive of my dreams and goals and made sure I had the tools I needed to be successful. Things weren’t easy for them but I’m blessed because they tried to make things as easy as they could for me. That doesn’t mean I am without struggle because I am not. Even now I am a micro business owner with a struggling niche business but that’s not stopping me from helping others. It’s not stopping me from making sure I am educating my community and sharing that knowledge that I have with them. It’s because of them, I will be able to contribute in a way that is not just needed but valued and that’s a blessing in itself.
