Meet Erin Mckenzie

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Erin Mckenzie a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Erin, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Initially, I pursued a degree in Dental Assisting, but after facing several challenges and failed tests, I decided to take a step back to reassess my path. During this time, I reflected on what truly brought me joy. As a child, I was deeply involved in theater and music—I sang, played various instruments, and participated in numerous plays. This realization helped me reconnect with my passion for the arts and ultimately guided me toward my true purpose.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am a Producer with Swift Motion Pictures, where I manage various aspects of production, including scheduling shoots, casting, selecting locations, and coordinating hair, makeup, and wardrobe. Recently, with the release of Let Me Be, a 6-episode series, I stepped into the role of Executive Producer. This project holds a special place in my heart as it marks the first time I’ve had the opportunity to tell my own story through film. Let Me Be is particularly significant for Swift Motion Pictures as well—it’s our tenth release and our very first series. The story is based on true events, which adds an extra layer of authenticity and emotion to the project. I look forward to continuing as an Executive Producer on more projects and sharing my story through the powerful medium of film.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three qualities that were most impactful in my journey are perseverance, a strong support system, and technical knowledge. Balancing college with raising two children was one of the hardest challenges I’ve faced. There were moments when I was on the brink of giving up, but the support system around me and the desire to show my daughters the importance of following your dreams kept me going. My teachers in film school also played a crucial role by holding me to the same standards as everyone else, teaching me that everyone has challenges, and mine were no different. Learning the cameras and equipment has been invaluable, as it allows me to fully understand and communicate with the crew on set.

Additionally, working with Swift Motion Pictures has significantly molded me into the producer I am today. The experiences and lessons I’ve gained from being part of this dynamic team have been instrumental in shaping my approach to production.

For those early in their journey, I advise building a strong support network, embracing challenges as part of the process, and continuously learning the technical aspects of your field. These elements will not only help you grow but also keep you grounded and focused on your goals.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did for me was instilling the importance of a strong work ethic and independence. They taught me that nothing in life is handed to you, and you have to work hard to achieve your goals. My mother, in particular, has been my strongest support system when it comes to my children, helping me through some of the darkest nights. Their unwavering support and motivation played a crucial role in keeping me on course.
