We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Erin Norman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Erin below.
Erin, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I think my resilience comes from two places: my purpose and my lived experience. As a filmmaker, I spent years knocking on doors that never opened, or that only opened a crack. That feeling of being overlooked or undervalued can break you down or it can light a fire under you. For me, it lit a fire.
What keeps me going is knowing that I’m not alone in that struggle. There are countless talented people with stories worth telling who just need someone to believe in them and give them a fair shot. That’s what inspired me to build SHARE, a platform designed to change the system I fought so hard to navigate myself.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
As the CEO and Co-Founder of SHARE, I’m dedicated to building a platform that empowers filmmakers, musicians, and creative entrepreneurs around the world. At its heart, SHARE is about giving artists real ownership, fair pay, and the tools to bring their stories to life without needing to rely on traditional gatekeepers.
What excites me most is how SHARE combines community and technology to solve problems that have held creatives back for decades. For example, our Community Greenlight feature makes it possible for projects to get funded directly by fans and supporters, ensuring that great ideas don’t get buried because someone in a boardroom said “no.” And with Version 2 of the platform on the horizon, we’re introducing even more ways for creators to collaborate, track profits transparently, and share in the success of their work.
Beyond the technology, what’s special about SHARE is the culture we’re building. It’s a place where independent artists can find resources, connect with likeminded collaborators, and be part of a global movement to redefine how creative work is valued.
If there’s one thing I’d love folks to take away, it’s that SHARE isn’t just a platform, it’s a mission. We’re here to prove that you don’t have to sacrifice ownership, fairness, or community to make your art.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the three qualities that have been most impactful for me are:
Persistence
The entertainment industry can feel like an endless series of closed doors and disappointments. Persistence is just the decision to keep going no matter how many setbacks you face and has been essential.
Advice:
Think of persistence as a practice, not a personality trait. Break big goals into small steps you can do every day. Celebrate tiny wins, and remember that progress often happens behind the scenes before it shows up in public.
Adaptability
From changes in technology to shifts in audience behavior, this industry never stops evolving. Being willing to pivot, whether that meant learning new platforms, exploring alternative funding models, or reimagining how I collaborate, has kept me moving forward.
Advice:
Stay curious. Read, experiment, and connect with people outside your usual circles. The more you expose yourself to new ideas, the easier it becomes to adjust when the landscape shifts.
Empathy
Whether I was producing a film or building SHARE, empathy has shaped everything. It helps you tell better stories, lead more effectively, and create products that actually serve your audience.
Advice:
Listen deeply. Ask questions and really pay attention to the answers. The more you practice seeing the world through other people’s eyes, the stronger your creative work and your leadership will be.
For anyone early in their journey, remember that you don’t have to master everything overnight. Focus on nurturing these qualities step by step. Over time, they become the foundation that will carry you through challenges and help you build something meaningful.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
The number one obstacle we’re facing is funding. As out-of-work filmmakers ourselves, we set out to build SHARE from the ground up with very limited resources. That’s been an enormous challenge, especially because the demand for what we’re doing is so incredibly high. There are so many filmmakers and musicians who feel hopeless about the current state of the entertainment industry, and they need help accessing fair funding, distribution, and ownership of their work.
The best thing about launching SHARE has been knowing we’re making a real difference for those people. Since March, we’ve successfully launched the platform and already welcomed over 1,200 users, which shows how urgent the need is.
To help overcome our funding challenges, we launched a WeFunder campaign that lets anyone invest in SHARE for as little as $200. Our goal is to raise $1 million so we can keep improving the platform and scale this movement. Ultimately, we want SHARE to stay true to its mission: a platform built by filmmakers, for filmmakers, where creatives themselves have ownership in the company.
We know it’s not easy, but we keep moving forward because we believe this is how we change the industry for good.
