Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Eshia Alvarado. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Eshia , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I have always had the desire to be my true self. I think once I got older and was really quiet and in tune with my inner self, I was able to get a clear idea of what my purpose is and why I’m here. What really pushed me further to figure this out, was becoming a Mother. I now have these extensions of myself who are figuring out their own identity and self and looking up to me, they became a reflection and I wanted to stand for something that I could be proud of myself and also make my family proud. I have discovered that no matter what I choose to do, producing a photo shoot, cooking a meal for my family, going for a walk on the beach, laying in the grass with my babies – I try to do so with intention. Creative living is a term I try to live by every day, noticing the tiny details in the everyday, shifting my perspective to be grateful for the rich life of love, family, food, nature, art, music, color, ocean, sun, sky that exists in our daily life. This has become a radical idea in a world full of other obsessions and this has become my purpose. I try to apply this to all aspects of what I do, my business as well as raising my babies and trying to be the healthiest, highest version of self.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
With my creative studio, I aim to create content that is meaningful, collaborating with brands who are attempting to make a difference in the world, sustainably, environmentally, emotionally. Working with artists and creators who care and reflect those who have been commonly underrepresented both in front of and behind the camera. Another principal we strive ourselves on, is the ability to create a peaceful environment on set or at events. Working with people who have good energy and contribute to an overall holistic and spiritual working place, allows for the art to shine through from a place of authenticity. We have currently expanded into an exciting realm, with the launch of Sol Studios Casting, where we are given the privilege of sourcing beautiful, unique, diverse talent to be the face of brands. This has allowed us the opportunities to put forward people who are also making differences in the world, other Artists, Healers, Writers, Mothers, Filmmakers, Teachers etc. to represent brands with similar missions.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I have always been a hustler and love working and challenging myself. I have never been embarrassed or ashamed of putting myself out there and reaching out to anyone. If you have an interest in something, do research on how you can get in there, for me it was internships and working for free or for subway fare, which also meant having to get another side job to pay my rent. This taught me how to have a good work ethic and balance a busy schedule, but it got me in the door to places that I wanted to be. If you are a hard worker and have good energy, people will be willing to take you in and teach you. That said, another quality I keep is that I am always learning. Although I have a lot of experience in the certain fields, I keep my eyes and ears open to continue to educate myself. So much evolves and fluctuates and it’s important to always keep the balance of what is standard practice while also creating new ways of doing things. Finally, an important skill I learned that I keep with me always is to be grateful and gracious. You never know who you will meet again in another space and treating people with kindness is something that I hold close to my heart in work and in life. Following one of Don Miguel Ruiz’s, “The Four Agreements”, “Don’t take anything personal”, is something I live by. If someone is rude to you or treats you poorly, it’s usually a projection of their own lack and not having to do with you.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me, was encouraged me to go to the East Coast for college. They have always wanted me to explore another part of the world and it was there where I was truly able to find my true, authentic self. I will always remember living in New York with roommates who went to Parsons School of Design, and I had put together an outfit that didn’t match or make sense, but felt interesting to me. I remember them not mentioning that it was “weird” or “ugly”, and when I walked out in the city that day, no one looked twice at me. I was able to be whoever I wanted to be without anyone caring or judging me, it gave me the freedom to explore who that was and embrace my interests. New York was and still is one of the most inspiring places in the world and a place where I feel at home in being in my own skin and a part of an artistic and inspiring energy.
