Meet Estelle Winsett

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Estelle Winsett. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Estelle below.

Hi Estelle, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
My father is a tenacious lawyer who taught me to never give up. He instilled in me the desire to help people and give it everything you’ve got. I learned from him that I could accomplish anything I put my mind to which has been a driving force in my entrepreneurial path. I’ve pivoted from the practice of law multiple times following my passions. I’ve not been afraid to go against the grain which ultimately gave me the courage to open up my own full time personal styling business for female attorneys.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
When I first started practicing law, I looked like I was 10 years old which didn’t help me with the dreaded imposter syndrome that every new attorney feels.

I was constantly asked to get coffee by opposing counsel who assumed I was the secretary. I got told not to worry my pretty little head. I felt completely underestimated and unseen.

And then a funny thing happened.

After realizing that law school had destroyed my vision, I went to the optometrist and got my first pair of eyeglasses.

Instantly, partners in my firm starting complimenting me.  It was as if overnight I had acquired a certain gravitas that had previously been lacking despite my 6 years of litigation experience.

It was in that moment that I learned the magic of dressing in a powerful way.

My new frames were a tool that made me look older, wiser and more experienced.

I was the exact same person with 6 hard fought years of experience but only now getting the respect I had so desperately wanted.

Once I realized the power of dressing, I up-leveled my almost all black wardrobe into a style that felt like me while still looking professional.

Since then, I have taken hundreds of female attorneys through my proven process of creating their own signature style that lights them up and makes them feel ready to take on the world. My mission is to empower women lawyers to shop up as the powerhouse women they are.

I’ve created a free Female Attorneys Guide to Style which can be access here: https://womenattorneystyleguide.pages.ontraport.net.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Along my journey, there are three skillsets that have been instrumental in my success.

First: follow your passion and listen to that voice in your head telling you that you were meant for more. After seven years of practicing law, I decided I wanted a different path, and I set out to intentionally create a career and life that lit me up, and I haven’t stopped.

Second: get coached. You can’t read the label from inside the jar. I have always invested in coaches to help me grow and learn. You get the benefit of speed when you invest in expert guidance. I have never regretted investing in myself, and I will bet on myself time and time again.

Third: take risks. You will never know what you are capable of if you don’t push yourself outside your comfort zone. All of your dreams are on the other side of discomfort. Go after your dreams and never stop.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client is a female attorney who is sick of playing safe and feeling invisible in her dull black and gray boxy suits. She is a powerhouse who is ready to show the world just what she is capable of. She wants to own every room she enters, and she needs help curating a wardrobe that makes her feel ready to take on the world. She regularly invests in herself, and she knows that how she presents herself matters both in increasing her confidence and making a lasting impression. She is ready for outward appearance to mirror her many years of hard fought experience and talent.
