We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ethan Mole a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ethan , so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
I used to feel very guilty about having “lazy days” or “self-care” days because I felt the constant pressure from society to constantly be grinding and always on the move. Recently I’ve learned to accept my need for “self-care” days and it’s made me a lot happier as a person. I’ll spend these days reading, playing video games, or going to the beach mostly. It’s a very nice mental reset for me that I find very helpful for future me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m an actor and drummer originally from Chicago that has been living in Los Angeles for the last 7 years. Since I was 4 years old I had a fascination with movies and music, and that fascination and passion has led me to where I am today. I’ve been working steadily as an actor in commercials, films, and tv, as well as drumming in multiple bands around the city.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three words of advice that I would give people who are early on in their journey would be to work hard, stay true to yourself, and to keep going. If you’re pursuing something in the arts, it will no doubt be a difficult journey. That doesn’t mean it’s the wrong journey though. I’ve seen rejection a million times in Los Angeles, yet I continue to book jobs more and more and more since I got here. I also think it’s incredibly important to stay true to you and not blend in with the crowd. Each of us have something unique to offer and it’s really important to remember that. You have something that other people don’t! Finally, work hard. There’s no easy way around it. Hard work pays off.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
I used to be really hard on myself when it came to being overwhelmed but I’ve learned that it’s a very natural human experience that can be dealt with in a healthy way. I’d suggest jotting down why you may feel overwhelmed and then from there tackle one thing at time.
