Meet Etheard Joseph

We recently connected with Etheard Joseph and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Etheard , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Living a meaningful life gives me purpose.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

As a multidisciplinary artist, I am constantly working on a variety of projects simultaneously. That is how I work best. When I’m not receiving the desired outcomes from a task, I’ll set it aside and focus on something else, which usually yields better results. For the past few months, I have been working on my new abstract painting series titled Paradise. Doing pre-production work for the Artists Connecting South Florida documentary series, and the Discarded Fishing Line Art Project is a project on which I have been working extensively. I utilize fishing lines during beach cleanups. I use many materials, like nets, ropes, lures, and plastic, to create artwork. I adore producing art, spending time at the beach, and fishing. I wanted to use art to help keep our beaches clean. The project enables me to use the components listed above to make enormous installation quilt-like pieces. I’ve been extremely fortunate to have so many individuals support our effort. Currently, there are two sculptures on display: one at the River Center in Jupiter, Florida, and the other at Manatee Lagoon in Riviera Beach.
I have also been developing goods that people can purchase and use at home; they’re totally functioning and, in essence, serve to raise awareness about the initiative. In addition, some of these products contain fishing lines and other recycled materials. I’m constructing coasters with fishing lines, pieces of net, and other items. I am also busy creating hats, t-shirts, reusable bags, and a variety of other clothing products. That is how I am funding the project, so when someone buys a piece of my product, they are allowing me to continue the project.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three skills I have learned to work with are:
1) believe
2) its not realistic to know evrything
3) prcatice

I’m always hesitant to provide advise, but in any event, what I’d tell anyone embarking on similar adventures is to give it your all. Second, the world is so large that expecting to know everything is incredibly foolish. However, it is your responsibility to complete your tasks and figure things out. Third, perfect your craft. Whatever your craft is, strive to be the best you can be for yourself rather than others.

How would you describe your ideal client?

I create abstract paintings in acrylic and oil. My ideal customer is someone who is looking for exceptionally rare and high-quality artwork. Enormous 30-by-20-foot triptych panel or a 4-by-4-foot piece. Custom painted sneakers, large paintings of the American flag, and  etc.
To raise money for the fishing line art project, I started selling high-quality clothing items including handbags, resin coasters, hats, and long-sleeved sunshirts .
