We recently connected with Etsperal and have shared our conversation below.
Etsperal, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
Being the only one in the room with my background has been a valuable experience. My journey through years of classical music training and performances has shown me that standing out can be an incredible asset. Each space I’ve entered has broadened my perspective, encouraging me to blend classical techniques with modern media, creating music that feels timeless and transcendent.
When I’m composing for a game or project, allowing my creativity to flow freely helps me channel my emotions fully into my work. It’s a reminder that life, in all its moments, is something to be celebrated—and that’s what I aim to capture in my music.
Whenever I feel stuck, I remind myself that I’m not only creating music; I’m creating emotions. This helps me move past confusion and any “creative blocks” and lets my life experiences and current emotions flow naturally into the music. By focusing on creating emotions rather than sounds, I find the freedom to transform each feeling into something tangible and meaningful.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My journey in music began many years ago, rooted in classical training across a variety of instruments, primarily the trumpet and piano. This foundation taught me discipline and gave me the versatility to explore different styles and approaches, from classical and jazz performance to media composition. Today, I’m a composer, producer, and musician focused on creating music that evokes emotions and connects with listeners on a deeper level.
One of the most exciting aspects of my work is the freedom I have to blend classical and jazz influences with contemporary media, particularly in video games and film soundtracks. Working with different genres has allowed me to experiment with unique soundscapes and push the boundaries of traditional composition.
Looking ahead, I’m thrilled to be working on new soundtracks for upcoming games and collaborating on projects that explore music’s power to transcend time and space. My goal is to keep creating music that resonates emotionally and leaves a lasting impact. For anyone who’s interested in keeping up with my work—or working with me—I’ll be announcing some exciting projects and releases soon!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are discipline, creativity, and adaptability.
First, discipline has been foundational, especially when mastering multiple instruments and tackling complex compositions. Consistency, practice, and patience are key here. My classical training taught me that progress doesn’t happen overnight; it’s about showing up every day, putting in the work, and being patient with the process. For anyone starting out, I’d recommend focusing on building a routine and dedicating time regularly, even in small increments, because each session adds up over time. It’s like when you’re learning a new piece of music—at a complicated section, you keep practising until you can get it right.
Second, creativity is essential. Creating music that resonates emotionally requires originality and the courage to explore new ideas. I encourage anyone on this path to experiment without fear of failure. Try different styles, blend unexpected sounds, and don’t be afraid to break away from convention. This freedom to explore is what fuels artistry.
Finally, adaptability has been crucial as I’ve moved into different areas within video game and film composition. Working across various genres and adjusting to new environments has allowed me to expand my skills and take on diverse projects. I’d advise newcomers to embrace challenges that push them beyond their comfort zones; these experiences will help them grow into more versatile and resilient artists. I’ve found that whenever I take on something that feels challenging, I’m able to rise above it and grow from it.
Ultimately, my advice is to keep honing these qualities—they’ll support your journey and help you grow both as an artist and an individual.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was to support my passion for music from a very young age. When I entered primary school, I expressed a strong desire to learn the piano, and they encouraged me wholeheartedly. They recognised how much it meant to me and made it possible for me to pursue that dream. Through all the struggles and challenges I faced as a beginner, they were there to support me every step of the way, helping me to stay motivated and reminding me of the joy that music can bring.
Additionally, it was my mom who introduced me to the trumpet. She saw my interest and believed in my potential, which made a significant difference in my life. Her encouragement led me to explore yet another musical avenue (no matter how annoying I sounded whilst playing the trumpet as a kid!), enriching my experience and expanding my skills.
Their unwavering support has been the foundation of my musical journey, helping me develop not just as a musician but also as a person. I am incredibly grateful for their belief in me and for creating an environment where I could pursue my passions freely.
