We recently connected with Eva De La Cruz and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Eva, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
My generosity stems from my upbringing in a humble family from Mexico, shaped by the values and experiences of my parents. Growing up, I often heard the story of how my family migrated to the U.S. with nothing to their name. Despite having family already here, no one offered help. I vividly remember being around four years old, living in a small one-bedroom apartment with my mom, dad, and three siblings.
When my mom’s family began migrating, my parents showed me what true generosity looks like. They would open our home to anyone who needed it, even if it meant they had to sleep on the kitchen floor. They made sure others had a roof over their heads and food to eat, asking for nothing in return. Their example taught me to give selflessly and with an open heart. That spirit of giving without expectation has stayed with me ever since.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a public notary with a strong work ethic and a passion for helping others. Over the years, I’ve explored various ways to earn a living, from being a home-based chocolate treat maker to starting in sales at just 14 years old, working in a small, family-owned cell phone store.
As a notary, I focus on serving communities that are often overlooked—retirement homes, assisted living facilities, and even jails. These places can be challenging to visit, but I believe everyone deserves access to notary services to handle their important matters. My brand is built on being accessible and dependable. Even in the middle of moving, when someone urgently needed a document notarized, I made the time to help them. It’s just who I am—always looking out for people and ensuring no one is left behind.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, three key qualities have been most impactful in my journey as a notary:
1. **Educating myself** thoroughly about the responsibilities and limitations of a notary public. Understanding the role in depth allowed me to serve clients confidently and professionally while staying within legal boundaries.
2. **Clear communication with clients.** It’s crucial to ensure clients understand my scope of work, especially when it comes to explaining that I cannot provide legal advice. This can be challenging, as some clients may perceive this as unhelpful, but setting clear expectations builds trust and integrity.
3. **Maintaining a welcoming demeanor.** A smile and a kind attitude go a long way in making clients feel comfortable, especially in situations where they might be anxious or unfamiliar with the notary process.
For those early in their journey, my advice is to focus on kindness and transparency. Take the time to educate your clients—ask if they’ve had prior experience with a notary and explain your role clearly, even if it feels repetitive. Many people are encountering a notary for the first time, and your patience and clarity can make a lasting impression. Most importantly, always strive to make your clients feel at ease—it’s not just about signing documents; it’s about serving people with care.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m always looking for people and businesses to collaborate with. If you’re in an industry where your clients often need a notary and want to provide them with a smoother, more convenient experience, I’d love to explore partnerships and collaborations. Together, we can make the process easier and more seamless for your clients. I can be found on my instagram handle pr a phone call away.
